Ex-IBP Cebu president Briccio Boholst, Amelie Alegre ambushed in Mandaue, CebuCEBU CITY (Updated) -- Two lawyers were ambushed Thursday evening, August 13, in Barangay Looc, Mandaue City, Cebu.
Lawyer Amelie Ocañada-Alegre, 35, died in the attack, which occurred around 7 p.m. Thursday, while lawyer Briccio Joseph Boholst, 55, is still being attended to in a hospital.

Lawyer killed, 2 others injured

A lawyer was killed and two others were injured in an ambush incident in Looc, Mandaue City Thursday night while on board a BMW vehicle.
The lawyer was identified as Attorney Amelie Ocana Alegre. Alegre was declared dead on the spot. Her companions, Atty. Briccio Boholst and Anthony Pino sustained gunshot wounds and were rushed to the nearest hospital.
Boholst is Mandaue City’s former City Administrator and former the president of Integrated Bar of the Philippines Cebu Chapter. The three victims work in one Law Firm.
Based on the initial investigation of Mandaue City Police Office, Alegre was driving the vehicle when unknown assailants fired gunshots on them. Seated at the passenger seat beside her was Boholst, and Pino was seated at the back.
SPO4 Marcos Noval Jr. of MCPO Homicide Section said that they still need to find out who owns the vehicle. They were able to recover seven empty shells of 9mm at the crime scene. (photos by John Aroa)

Marietta Ouano Ocañada, the mother of Amelie suspected that her daughter’s husband marital problems can be a motive for the killing.
Dwight Remedio, one of Amelie’s law partners and her best friend, also said that Amelie and her husband have a pending annulment case. They were college sweethearts and got married in 2004, four years before she became a lawyer. They have no child.
Marietta said Amelie separated from her husband after just four years of marriage due to alleged paramours on the part of the husband.
