Default When and when not to use "Gaming" as a keyword

    This is a Rant.
A rant that should have been done months ago
Too many people use "Gaming" as a keyword for their builds, laptops, motherboards even if they are not

What deserves to be called "Gaming"

    LAPTOPS:

    > ASUS ROG G Series Laptops
    > MSI Gaming G Series Laptops
    > Dell's Alienware Gaming Laptops
    > HP Omen Series laptops
    > Acer <- no gaming laptop
    > Toshiba Qosmio series laptops
    > others I may have forgotten to mention

    MOTHERBOARDS

    > ASUS ROG MAXIMUS / RAMPAGE / CROSSHAIR / CROSSBLADE series motherboards
    > MSI Gaming Series Motherboards
    > Gigabyte Gaming Series Motherboards
    > Asrock Fatal1ty Series Motherboards
    > ECS L337 Gaming Series Motherboards
    > Biostar Gaming Series Motherboards
    > others I may have forgotten to mention

    DESKTOPS/BUILDS

    > Prebuilt machines <- if it's not branded as "Gaming" its not gaming
    > Custom Built machines <- If and only if the GPU is at a ratio "better" than the CPU
    Example: Intel i7 + GTX 750 <- not gaming
    Intel Pentium + GTX 730 <- gaming
    Intel i3 + GTX 980 <- gaming
    Intel i7 + GT 210 <- I hope you die.

Let us try to minimize using the "Gaming" keyword. Once the keyword is abused the value of the keyword deteriorates.

    A rant well received.
    Intel i7 + GT 210 <- I hope you die.
    Especially like this one.

If gpu uses shared memory - not gaming.

    murag lisud2x ni gamay...
for the looks of it..., people have 'different' views for gaming irregardless of hardware they have..., as long as they are 'able' to play "the" game, then they'll call it what you are RANTING about. ^_^

nah, even with facebook gaming . many people call their pc and laptops for gaming because it can ran the facebook game.

    Intel i7 + GT 210 <- I hope you die.
    DMD!

sell you i7 and buy i3 + 7850! < old school heroes in my humble level >

    LAPTOP
    How about my Lenovo Y50 with its 4GB DDR5 GTX 860m + 4th gen i7 QC+HT ?
Acer's V15 and V17 nitro Black Edition? This laptop got the same specs as your ASUS ROG G501(FHD ver)!!
Asus's very own N-series laptops have more or less the same specs as their ROG series!

    MOTHERBOARD
My Rig's Gigabyte Z77X-UP5 TH? Not labeled 'Gaming' but it got SLI support, which is for me, supposed to be for gaming. And it also have some features you see on those 'gaming' motherboard. LED Debugger, Lucid Virtu Universal MVP GPU virtualization support, Realtek ALC898 with High Quality 110dB SNR HD audio, good amp for better 3.5mm audio output(pareha sa ROG MAXIMUS), OC-PEG, etc!

    DESKTOPS/BUILDS
    Nya kani nga combo: i5-3550 + 2xR9 270x (Crossfire)
    sakto ras panlasa nimo?

Unsa diay kinahanglan para ma-"gaming" siya para nimo? I think para nimo wala nay gamit ang low-end GPUs? What if online gamer ko which is gamay ray panguyuon sa dedicated GPU? Wala nay entry-level gaming, mid-end gaming, high-end gaming, ethusiast-grade gaming sa nimo. Basta gi-LABELan lang sa manufacturer ug "GAMING" mao ra gyud na? For me, na-manipulate naka'g maayu sa marketing.

IMO, it's not about the manufacturer's branding that considers a device GAMING but it's its capability to suit your gaming needs! Lenovo calls my Z400(it's not even the top-tier model with only i3+gt 635m) a multimedia laptop, but it's a GAMING LAPTOP kay makapadagan man siya'g GAME though in MID to LOW settings ra pero in PLAYABLE framerates man sad!

that's just my opinion though. Everyone's entitled to one.

What I perceived nga what you are trying to say kay
Para sa imuha GAMING ning ASUS "ROG" G20AJ-PH005S with specs:
    - Windows 8.1 with Bing
    - Intel Core i7-4790 processor
    - NVIDIA GeForce GTX745 4GB GDDR3 VRAM
    - 12GB(4GB+8GB) DDR3 RAM, 1TB HDD
source: Asus Product Guide Dec'14-Jan'15 Brochure

Pero dili ning ASUS M51AZ with highest configurable specs of:
    - Windows 8.1
    - 4th Gen i7
    - NVIDIA GeForce GTX760 3GB
    - 32 GB Dual Channel, DDR3 at 1600MHz (4 x DIMMs)
    source: Desktops | M51AC | ASUS Global

kay wala man siya gitawag ug "GAMING" sa Asus! Di ba?

^ You also have a point bro.

    For example:

Even if I use an Intel Celeron and a 1GB RAM and I only play Plants vs. Zombie. . I'll consider it as a gaming machine, since it is the only game that I play and the PC can run it..

dependi ra gyud na sa owner unsaon niya pagtawag iyahang laptop/desktop.

Ok. Maybe sayop sya about the motherboards and laptop. Any motherboard as long as its got a utilized pcie 1.0 x 16 can be a gaming motherboard.

Any laptop with dedicated graphics and dedicated vram can be a gaming laptop.

    @dab_s_bad
People have different views but they dont have the right unless their hardware qualifies and the games they play are on a level above PASTTIME level.

    @xy.techNOS
In my pov, not everyone is entitled to one. Sugot ba ka that your lenovo Y50 will be on the same pedestal as somebodys netbook just because he frequently plays flash games on it? Imagine you spent tens of thousands for your build and it gets branded as the same gaming build as the piso2x boxes because people think they are both gaming machines? There must be a distinction. I believe thats what you paid for.

    @williexhan
If you will consider a celeron +1gb as a gaming machine, then youre pov is flawed. Sugot ba ka naay moingon nga walay kalainan imo titan sa HD2000? There must be a distinction. And people with the appropriate hardware must set that line.

My point is "gaming" must not be taken literally. It comes with a higher connotation. Lets use that connotation to describe hardwares not the just the context.

@xy.techNOS I get what you are saying, but you are proving the point that I am trying to make.
I own a Gigabyte Z77X-UP7 thats a 4 GPU capable motherboard.. It is not a Gaming Motherboard, it is a commercial level Overclocking/Enthusiast board. It CAN game don't get me wrong about that, but it was intended for gaming, and I will not brand it as "GAMING" because it was not targeted to be one.

It's all about setting up the niche, what is the intended consumers. Multimedia processing Desktops are waaay overpowered than gaming Desktops (given they don't use quadro cards) but they shouldn't be branded as "Gaming" desktops, because they are not.
