Default "Thank you in advance" - impolite???

I don't know if you feel the same way as I do, but I really find this phrase offensive whenever I get to read it in letters or emails that involved a request. I'm sure the writer simply wants to sound polite but ironically for me, it doesn't come across that way. It seems to me like the writer is too presumptuous that the addressee has to simply comply without resentment what is being requested.

Would love to hear your thoughts..

It depends on how the email/letter is written man Sis.

If its on a positive direction, then that closing statement is ok.
If its on a negative direction, then ako pod i-close akong reply with : "No promises on this though."

"Thank you in advance" - meaning whether you have completed/done with what she/he asked for or just tried doing it.. that is given na ni thank you. Unless you assume or think nga "assuming man ning tawhana ako buhaton iyang request".. that will really depend entirely on how you take it.

basin offensive and tao or ang content sa email/message. Offensive jd ang statement na "Thank you in advance"

its true though. but i don't find it offensive. there is nothing wrong if you don't comply, you just have to explain to the sender that you cannot comply and then at the footer you'd say "Thank you in advance for understanding."

Seems like I'm only one of the few people who don't feel comfortable with the phrase. Thanks for sharing your views.

For me, I still would prefer if the one who wrote the request would just close the email/letter with
"Thank you for taking the time to consider my request." or simply "Thank you".
And then just thank the recipient again afterward for providing whatever it is the person is requesting him to do.

Business sense, this is not acceptable or appropriate in Business emails or Corporate requests. I often instruct my people to use these instead:

    1. In the meantime, thank you so much for your attention and participation.
    2. I will be grateful if you can help me out.
    3. Many thanks for considering my request.
    4. I hope what I have requested is possible.
    5. I will really appreciate any help you can provide.

Saying "Thank You" before the request is done is still saying it in "advance".

Saying "Thank you" is still considered polite regardless if the act was never done, half-done or done. But putting the word "In advance" makes everything feel presumptuous. The writer or sayer presumes that you will provide what is requested. So it's a big no.

ani nalang.. saying thank you in advance is much better than not saying thank you at all.
