Jewelry, cash taken from pawnshop | Sun.Star
CEBU CITY -- Three armed men robbed My Gold Jewelry Shop at the corner of Colon St. and Osmeña Blvd. in Cebu City yesterday, reportedly carting away jewelry and P7,000 in cash.
Based on the footage captured by the establishment’s closed-circuit television camera (CCTV), the robbery was over in five minutes, said PO3 Jodan Batucan of the Cebu City Theft and Robbery Section.
A man wearing a cap and a gray hoodie aimed a gun at Rodeto Jimenez as soon as he entered. He was followed by two men, one in a red shirt and the other in white.
Jimenez, a security guard under the Evergreen Security Agency, was mopping the floor at the time. He and the other staff were getting ready to open the shop.
When he saw the suspects, Jimenez, 24, immediately squatted at a corner and covered his head. The three men confiscated his firearm, then grabbed the jewelries and placed these in a large paper bag.

“
Paghapa nako, wa na ko kahibaw unsa nay sunod nahitabo (I did not know what happened after I squatted),” Jimenez told Sun.Star Cebu in a phone interview.
The robbers also took P5,000 from the till and P2,000 in emergency cash funds.
They reportedly had a cohort waiting for them outside, Batucan said. They fled on board two motorcycles.
Police are reviewing the CCTV footage to check if any of the men were also involved in the robbery of an electronic bingo outlet in Mandaue City last March 23.
Jimenez called Police Station at 8.35 a.m. to report the robbery.
Batucan said the robbers locked the staff inside the employees’ room during the duration of the robbery.
They were identified as jewelry vault custodian Alma Entera, 23; cashier Kristel Mae Bucol, 24; and sales staff Ma. Corazon Pantonial, 27.
The jewelry vaults were not locked when the robbery happened because the employees were preparing to arrange them on the glass-covered display tables before they were to open at 9 a.m., said Batucan.
The staff later went to the police station to report the incident. They were accompanied by branch supervisor Charlyn Ermac, 29.
Batucan did not know how much the stolen jewelries were worth since they have yet to receive details from the establishment.
In a separate interview, Cebu City Police Office Acting Director Mariano Batiancela Jr. said this could be the biggest robbery to take place in the city so far this year.
Similar modus
Batucan said the other units, including the City Intelligence Branch, have already joined them in their investigation.
Last March 23, the 8 E-Bingo Club in Mandaue City was also robbed by armed men who reportedly fled using two motorcycles. They reportedly locked the employees in the outlet’s comfort room and carted away P1.9 million in cash.
Police earlier identified the suspects of the electronic bingo outlet robbery as Mario Remitre, Michael Florida, Richard Daguman and Ruel Remedios. They reportedly hail from Ozamiz City.
The robbery was also captured by surveillance cameras, but the suspects have not been caught.
Batucan said they will compare the footage from the surveillance cameras in both robberies to check if these were related.
Batucan said the gun used by the robbers looks like a KG9 gun, which was the same gun used in the Mandaue incident. But he said he is not completely sure since the footage is blurry.
Batucan also did not discount the possibility of an inside job. The employees will also be investigated.
