The three tenors in Mehta is the album that introduced me to Opera. Pavarotti's voice singing O Sole Mio was haunting and powerful. His voice will be missed around the world.
Rigoletto, Nessun Dorma, La Serenata, Ave Maria (Schubert version) are just some of my favorites. I grew up in a poor family but my dad just loves this guy that we play many of his songs every early morning katong plaka or vinyl record pa (wapa ma uso ang tape or CD) hehehe. Our neighbors would say that our music was for the rich or for requiem every time Pavarotti belted his chandelier-rocking aria over our analog stereo. On the contrary, my dad would say, that many/most of Pavarotti's songs actually depict the life of ordinary people -- their feelings, their spirituality and life. I wish I had the money when he came to Manila over a decade ago - I would have sent my dad to watch him in real-life...that time the ticket was 25,000!!! so we had to contend with a delayed telecast of his concert sa TV.
Certainly, he would be sorely missed by those who had been touched by the power of his songs inside and outside of the world of opera -- and sadly, that includes me and my father. On the lighter side, he would make a very good tenor among the Seraphims UP there.![]()
.. damn. such a big loss to the music world. Not only is he a great tenor but he's a good man as well, his charity works are just humbling.
So long Pavarotti..
ka luoy pud woi, i loved his songs.
