Everyone is welcome to donate their blood in Philippine Red Cross - Eastern Visayas Regional Blood Center located in
Osmeņa Blvd., Cebu City.
You don't need a special reason to give blood. You just need your own reason to give blood. Some of us give blood because we were asked by a friend. Some of us give blood because we know a family member or a friend might need blood someday. Some of us give blood because we believe it is the right thing to do.
When you donate blood through the Red Cross, you help save lives by giving of yourself in just about an hour. You may never meet the person who receives your blood, but you'll feel good knowing you helped change a life.
Donating blood is a very simple procedure that will take a few minutes of your time. At the same time voluntary blood donors will give the following benefits to the community and yourself.
- More volunteer blood donors would mean ADEQUATE blood supply.
- More volunteer blood donors would mean SAFER blood supply.
- It boosts self - worth. Being able to save lives will make you feel good about yourself. It will make you a socially responsible person. It is something that you can do for the community.
Where can I donate blood?You, your family and friends may come and visit the Philippine Red Cross - Eastern Visayas Regional Blood Center, Osmeņa Blvd., Cebu City.
Bring any Valid Identification Card and your Donor's Card for recording your donation.
Who can donate blood?
- are in good health
- between 18 to 60 years old ( 16 and 17 years old need parents consent)
- weigh at least 110 lbs or 50 kgs.
- hemoglobin level must be at least 125 g/l (not anemic)
- blood pressure must be between:
Systolic : 90 - 160 mmHg
Diastolic: 60 - 90 mmHg
- Pulse rate :50 to 100 beats/min. Regular rhythm
- women can donate blood even if they are menstruating as long as the hemoglobin pass the required level.
- pass the physical and health history assessments.
" PRC blood service facilities carefully screen potential donors. The screening guidelines are necessary to ensure that blood donation is safe for you and that it is safe for the person who receives your blood"
"During the screening process, you fill out a blood donation questionnaire form that includes direct questions about behaviors known to carry a higher risk of blood-born infections - infections that are transmitted through blood. A trained member of the blood donation team will ask you about your medical/health history and check your blood pressure, pulse and temperature. final assessment will be done by a Physician. All of the information from this evaluation is kept strictly CONFIDENTIAL."
How to donate blood?
- Pre-donation information
- Register honestly and completely the donor registration form
- Donors Interview
- Have your weigh taken
- Have your blood type and hemoglobin checked
- Final assessment by a trained Blood Bank Physician
- Actual donation would usually take 10 minutes or less
- A 5 to 10 minutes rest is necessary and drink plenty of fluids
- you may go back to your usual activities
What happens to my donated blood?Each unit of blood collected will be examined for 5 transfusion transmissible infectious diseases, namely HIV, Malaria, Syphilis, Hepatitis B and Hepatitis C before it is transfused to patients.
Before Donating Blood:
Don't Miss
- Have enough rest and sleep
- No alcohol intake at least 24 hours prior to blood donation
- No medication for at least 24 hours prior to blood donation
- Eat light meals, avoid fatty foods
- Drink plenty of fluids like water and juices
After Donating blood
- Drink plenty of fluids like water and juices.
- refrain from stooping down after blood donation
- refrain from strenuous activities like: lifting heavy objects, driving big vehicles such as bus, trucks etc, operating big machines
- avoid using the punctured arm in lifting heavy objects.
- apply pressure on the punctured site and lift the arm in case the site is still bleeding.
- if there is discoloration and swelling on the punctured site, you may apply cold compress for 24 hours and the hot compress for the next 24 hours.
- if there is dizziness, just lie down feet elevated. drink plenty of water and juices, in just a few minute or so it will pass.

Every Monday excluding Holidays 8 AM to 4 PM, Tuesday to Fridays kindly make an inquiries before coming to the blood center.
For Blood Requests:
24 Hours, everyday including holidays.
How to avail blood from Red Cross?The hospital where transfusion will take place prepares a blood request that should be completely filled up and signed by the attending doctor or by a resident doctor on duty; should be given to the nearest PRC Blood Service Facility. All blood requests will be issued blood as long as public support for the Red Cross Services permits adequate stock of blood for distribution.
A corresponding blood processing fee will be charged on the type of blood component to be served for the patients,
Blood itself is free, having come from a volunteer donor. The fee covers the cost of collecting, processing and testing.
