I just want to share with you guys this manga that I encountered during my quest for interesting mangas. Nodame Cantibile is a creation of Tomoko Ninomiya. It has already has tv series and anime. Now this is not that lovey dovey type although it is shoujo. I actually found it hard to determine at first if the two main characters are a romatic couple. The girl bida, Noda "Nodame" Megumi is unlike any characters you ever seen in any manga. Well then, let me give you a very very short summary:
Shinichi Chiaki, a piano major, is a very talented musician. He can play both violin and piano very well but he wants to be a conductor an orchestra. Other musicians around him, who are lesser than him in talent, are going abroad pursuing their musical careers. He is, however, stuck in Japan because of his fear of flying. During this low time of his life he meets Noda "Nodame" Megumi, a free spirited, unlady-like (short way of saying that she doesnt clean her room, wears the same dress for three days straight, doesn't take a bath for three days straight as well or more, etc) piano major of the same school as Chiaki who happens live next door. She caught his attention (not in a romantic way, mind you) when he heard her cantabile style of playing piano. What surprised him more was that Nodame can't read music sheets but she can play peices after only listening to them! Nodame then teaches Chiaki to have fun with music and reminds him why he wanted to be a conductor in the first place. Together, they both mature not only as a person but also as a musician. This is where their really wierd relationship starts.
Now that sounds interesting right? This manga, however, is not exactly an eye candy (meanig the artwork is very simple). You might get disapointed because the artwork is not the best there is in the manga world but i personally think that the story makes up for that. Even if it deals with classical music, the creator made it sound very interesting and explains it a bit in the story in an un-boring way. This also filled with very funny antics courtesy of Nodame and other supporting characters that will sprout here and there as the story progresses.
hope you will find the chance to read this.
