Default CBCP says no to death penalty for drug lords

    https://anc.yahoo.com/news/cbcp-says...061535486.html

Amid mounting calls to reimpose the death penalty against drug lords, the Church stands firm on its decision to oppose the death penalty.
MANILA - "Hiram ang buhay. Walang ibang pwedeng kumuha niyan, kahit Estado."
This is the response of an official of the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines amid mounting calls to reimpose the death penalty against drug lords.
    Firm belief
Fr. Francis Lucas, executive director of the CBCP Catholic Media Network, said the church cannot be pressured to change its position regarding the death penalty.
He said that based on Church teaching, a person must be given a chance to repent and change his ways.
"There must be the hope of returning to the fold. If a person is killed, there is no chance for reform," he told radio dzMM.
The prelate said there are studies that show the death penalty is not a deterrent to criminality.
He said the death penalty is the "wrong solution to the wrong problem", noting that the main problem is sin.
"When you sin, there is a social impact. If you kill someone, you cannot say that you only affect yourself. You also affect those around you, those who love you," he said.
"We have to go back to valuing life in all its perspectives. Yun ang mahalaga. Ang pagpatay ay hindi pag value ng life," he added.
    Sotto's move
Senator Vicente Sotto on Tuesday revived his calls for the reimposition of the death penalty after seeing the luxurious lifestyle of drug lords jailed at the national penitentiary.
The senator said he believes drug syndicate leaders are beyond rehabilitation, arguing that the maximum penalty of life imprisonment has worked to their advantage.
"Paano mo ire-rehab ang drug lord na nakakulong na, nag-o-operate pa?" he said. —ABS-CBNnews.com

The f*ck this motherf*cking people! Whoever said religion and the state should never be mixed has never heard of the Philippines. Father Lucas, pray-tell then what you think is the best way to fix this problem? Pray until they get enlightenment and change their ways? In fairness, for once, Sotto spat something out of his mouth which is not stupid.

That's why in some countries people don't go to churches anymore because the priests ideas are so victorian, especially the pinoy priests.

It really isnt juz that, but it is a big part of it, and it also started this whole sh*tfire. Sotto has a point, reviving the death penalty would be good since giving them life imprisonment is like living life in paradise.

I believe it will also reduce the increasing population of the Bilibid and freeing some cramped space.
