Default Japanese Voluntarily Picks up Trash in Baguio Every day

A Japanese national is quietly gaining the admiration and respect of residents in Baguio City for his morning habit: voluntarily cleaning a local overpass there.
Mazakasa Nose uses his free time to clean the Maharlika Tiongsan overpass, and his act of volunteerism has not gone unnoticed.

"Mabuti pa ang ibang lahi may malasakit. Samantalang iyong mga dumadaan naman sa overpass na mahilig magtapon ng kung saan, walang pakialam. Nakakahiyang isipin ibang lahi pa ang naglilinis sa mga kalat natin," said Facebook user Celayca Aviles, who has posted photos of Nose on her account.

Aviles' post is quietly gaining traction on social media, with hundreds of shares as of posting time and mentions in various blogs.

Local news site The Cordilleran Sun said Nose regularly goes up the stairs of the overpass and picks up trash, bringing a black garbage bag and a tong.

It noted Nose embodied the Japanese people's "enviable discipline" in daily life.

Japanese people also show the same discipline when they are in other countries such as when Japanese football fans picked up their trash after matches at the World Cup games in Brazil earlier this year.

"The man's pictures and act of cleaning up the overpass are currently being shared by people online. And deservedly so. This man deserves a pat on the back for sacrificing his time and resources in trying to help keep the city free from litter," the site said
