    Default networking problem...

    hello guys,

naa ko problm about networking connection..

    im using d-link switch 16 port 10/100mbps
the distance of the workstation from server is almost 350 meter away.

the scenario is from the SERVER going to switch 16 port then
distributed to the switch 8 port, almost 5pcs switch 8 port im using to reach the
workstation..sad to say dili continues ang connection kung akong e-ping ang server.
kay naa man gud program na ginagamit..naa ba u idea ani para dili maputol putol
    ang iyang connection?
    im using crossover.

    thanks!

    God bless!

Check the cable, basin di maayo ang pagkacrimp
Try somewhere closer, UTPs range are just about a hundred meters
Try using straight cable. Generally, router to host kay cross, switch to host uses straight

You mean ang room dili aircon? It won't matter, it won't affect the network. The main problem is with your connection. It could be the cables or even the LAN cards. Try reconnecting the cable to the LAN card, basin di maayo ang pagbutang.

By the way, if your room is not airconditioned and your running it for 24 hours, be sure you've got very good cooling system in the units, madaot na imong processor.

ang gi agian sa cable basin niagi ug balast sa suga, it can cause putol2x
Crosstalk? It's not possible with UTP cables, if ever naa man gani, it's negligible. Not unless if it's something else.

You can consider the following to help you solve the problem:

    1. 350 meters distance from the server to the workstation is not advisable unless you have a repeater.
allowable distance for a good connection is 100meters only.

    server to 16ports switch distance = ?
    16ports switch to 8ports distance = ?
    8ports to workstations = ?

the distance is the other thing to consider.

    2. Are your PC lancards set to "auto" speed?
(though you can select from 10/100/1000mbps speed options if supported, but "auto" speed is advisable)

    3. Bad utp cable or loss contact of wires to the RJ45.
    4. Consider the following: (DTE - Data Terminal Equipment, DCE - Data Communication Equipment)
    * DTE to DTE = cross connect
    * DCE to DTE (vice versa) = straight thru
    * DCE to DCE = cross connect
    - DCE = modems, routers, switches, repeaters, hub, etc.
    - DTE = pc's, laptops, servers, network printers, etc.

    5. Your DCE devices might have the problem.
    6. Check your lancards.

    additional to point number 2.

    - if you want to set your lancard to 100mbps be sure that your switch supports 100mbps(can support mostly)
and you shud set all your pc also to 100mpbs to be sure (for sharing purposes and good communication between devices).
10mbps pc <---> 100mbps pc might cause the inconsistent connection.
