    u dont need a router na.. just simply.. put a switch/hub then conect all ur workstation to ur switch/hub then.. configure each workstation.. put ip address.. gateway.. dns.... then ur done... ..

    i agree with monrose. use swith/hub to connect all your PC's on a local area and configure. you may also use this setup if you have internet connection.

    the main advantage of having a router is that you can configure it to filter sites,ports, protocols etc. since your concern is to connect all workstations in a local area, follow monrose29's advice.

    if in the future you will give workstations with internet connection its better to buy a router now.

    No need to have a router for the lan not unless you have more vlans. Purpose of a router is path determinations, routes your network from other network.

    most routers sold in the market have switch already... so go for it. In the future if you want an internet connection there is no need to buy another device.

    Me I have a 7 port switch with a router. Now that broadband is available in my area there is no need to buy a router.

    the simple answer is NO.. all you need is either a switch or hub since they're not connected to the internet. no need for DNS no need for gateway settings
