Default APU myth, i need to know the truth based on your experiences.....

one day, a few months ago, i visited my suki nga computer shop. pag abot nako, the technician was mass assembling PC's for pisonet kuno. then we started talking about that particular entry level APU motherboard (GIGABYTE and ASUS)and what it was IDEAL for.

He said nga okay ra daw ang a6 or a8 ba to for regular office work and htpc duties. BUT ni ingon siya kung mu game daw ka, grabe daw mu init and area near the processor, opposite side of the ram slots, kana ABOVE the processor slot and to its LEFT i think those are called the VRM components, consisting of capacitors and mosfets. grabe daw mu init to the extent dili daw mahikap. an aftermarket cooler will not solve the problem daw kay ang motherboard man ang mu init daw. to the extent mu pawng kuno ang system kung mu game ka....
i asked sad that what if i directed a 120mm fan directly into the area, and he said it helps very little dili daw maka apas.

he said that if i want to game with an APU, i should choose a motherboard with beefier heatsinks in this area and not those motherboards with exposed components.....

i kinda need to know the truth about this since im considering to change my HTPC/Light gaming rig into an APU based system.

    so this is practically TRUE
if so, how to the pisonet owners handle this problem?

I'm not sure lang ha. I think waLa man cguro ni siLay mga games na cpu/gpu intensive. Anyway, if naa man gani, mo throttle ra man pud na kung diLi na mo kaya ang ka init. Apektado Lng nuon ang performance. Wait sa ta og actual na PisoNet owner direh with that setup.

mu unit ang VRM but not to the extent nga mapalong ang system. Ako gamit kay MSI FM2 ITX nga board, naka enclose pa jud sulod sa itx case. That board is bare, not a single heatsink in place. Never had any issues with overheating nor restarts.

is that the entry level board from MSI? or higher level board na? dili kayo switiks ani AMD but im curious enough to learn.
    u using on board graphics?

High level board nana. walay entry ITX board sa FM2 sockets.

It's a low-end itx board :P. And yup I'm using the onboard gpu. Dili basta2 na murestart even on low end boards cause the apu is built in such a way na if ever the vrm cannot handle the power load anymore, automatic mu throttle ang clocks sa apu.

I meant sa FM2+ sockets category. A88 chipset man kaha. so taas taas sila sa duha nga 58 og 78. back read FM2 socket/board akong ge mention.

Never heard issues about unusual shutdown when it comes to gaming it's because of too much heat from VRM using AMD APU's, yeah the fact is it's really hot and I think they are designed in that way so manufacturers won't release it if they can't handle the job. My friend is using AMD A6-6400K and Asus A55BM-E (this mobo doesn't have a heatsink on VRM), didn't experience any issues at all.

VRM's of some other mobos has an idle temp of 45c and a load temp reaching 60-70c, basin mao ingon niya dili mahikap haha.

Basin worried ra to imong suki about the heat from VRM hehehe. And manufacturers do know what they do the way mobos are designed and before motherboards release to the market it will go through a process so ila jd na i test daan if makaya ba sa mobo or if naa bay daot.
