Exclamation Movement for a Livable Cebu - what say you?

The movement for livable cebu held a "road sharing" event this afternoon from 3pm-7pm. This was meant to promote better modes of transit other than Cars and such and allowing people who prefer to bike where ever they go. And all that Nature lovin' stuff.

What they are trying to promote is good. However, I feel that so the long as the powers that be cannot dissuade the corporate giants to do what is ultimately good for Cebu; better drainage planning, proper flow of traffic, and the like; then their efforts will have been for nothing.

I am a pessimist by nature and I see that what they are doing is merely a drop in the ocean.

Take the proper flow of traffic situation alone. Every rush hour, the archbishop reyes road becomes so heavily packed with cars that it takes 20 minutes to move from that triangular lot fronting the lbc to the ayala stop light. and why is that? because the outflow of cars coming from ayala is not controlled. people can turn right anytime going to archbishop reyes. that alone should be controlled. the next problem is the jeepney terminal. jeepneys coming out of that terminal clog up the flyover that the whole stretch of road between that flyover to the the next flyover(samantabadra) is a motorist nightmare.

To me, a livable cebu is when we have every freaking establishment comply with the 10meter set back so that our pedestrians can have an actual place on which to walk and NOT have to utilize the streets. From downtown to uptown, there are many violators of the 10 meter setback that is not being complied with for whatever reason. Sufficient sidewalks make for better flow of cars who do not have to constantly watch our for pedestrians using the roads since there's no sidewalk.

To me, a livable cebu is when every single cebuano is commited deep in his/her own heart towards progress. Take China for example. The Chinese Government owns the land that everyone occupies. Developers are merely "leasing" the land. If the government needs that piece of land that you are currently sitting on, they offer you 3 chances to move out. 1st chance, they offer you a some of money and move to another space. If you refuse, then the 2nd chance is when they offer you a smaller amount of money and move to another space. On the 3rd chance, they evict you entirely without any money or space to live on. One non-chinese resident asked a China local, "why can the government do that? is that even fair?" You know what the China Local replied? He said, "Why shouldn't the government be allowed to do that? The government is only doing this for the betterment of the citizenry. I know that the government can make better use of this land than me for the greater good of everyone in China."
That kind of love of country is quite frankly is absent in all of our hearts. If not love of country, then at least love of one's own province. Davaoueños abide by their laws and look how progressive they are. So progressive that Krispy kreme and j.co actually opened their first before coming to cebu. Either davao or CDO, the point is Cebu was not as favorable an option than them considering we're suppose to be the 2nd most populated province and 2nd most lively economy next to Manila.

Finally, a livable cebu can only happen if the goddamn politicians will stop thinking about their 2nd or 3rd terms and just get the job done. The needless arguing is sometimes too blatant and too revealing of their ulterior motives. Crab mentality is alive and well in our society. Let us veer away from it.

una sad ang Iloilo pag.open J.Co before Cebu(nag.wonder jud ko why)

regarding govt authority on lands...they can actually make you evict if lets say they are planning a road expansion...see that 4-lane road in Naga?(though as to why they didn't also remove the electric posts in the middle of a road is a wonder)---same scenario when a govt project for a flood irrigation in Iloilo had to pass through a portion of our poultry farm(govt paid us, wala profit pero bawi man gamay kay naa na mi other right of way)

easy solve raman ang regarding sa traffic...pero most traffic enforcers(but not all) are more focused on catching violations(for coffee) than directing traffic....so many times I've seen a bumper2bumper traffic IN THE MAKING, and I see those officers just standing there....or turning a blind eye to a jeep that suddenly makes a stop sa road(blocking the 2-lane road entirely, at times)

as to politicians....we hear the same promises..the same criticisms to their opponents(refer to Osmena's take on the recent flooding)...

Politicians thinking ahead and are always on top of their toes where they can react immediately and effectively to any situations.
Earlier the road sharing session was a big dud and even when the mistake starts to surface, they failed to adjust and fix the issue.

Bihira ning Mayor Rama and CITOM gi himo experimento ang mga tao!
Waste of time, stress, gas and pollution was the result of the so called "road sharing experiment".

We need someone who is practical and street smart... not someone who wishes they are.

    waste of time experiment

Don't expect something positive outcome..gikan sa usa ka grupo
nga against sa road widening and BRT for Osmena Blvd

tapos naa pa sila nawung mag expirement kunohay?
    Wa sila nalipong..

kung gusto sila ug Road Sharing then uyon sila sa road widening
    and BRT for Cebu City!

    I prefer MegaCebu versus MLC!
puro ra na supak nahibaw-an nila!

To skateboarders, cyclist ug uban pa
kung gusto mo kausaban...support Mayor Rama projects
labi na ang Road widening..kay mao ni makahatag way
arun naa ta dedicated lane for bikers!

ayaw mo tuo anang MLC...nuisance ra na sila!

This is just the beauty of Democracy. We have the rule of eminent domain that compensates landowners a "fair market value" instead of the "socialism" way of compensation, giving you an amount 1/10th of the total value of the property. One advice though:
If you need to know some truth about Chinese policies, never ask the mainlanders. Ask the Hongkongers. The mainlanders are too brainwashed to give you the exact answers.

Before we apply rocket science to a simple problem, maybe we should just get back to basics; clear the sidewalks from vendors and the like and implement our existing rules consistently. I will support Road Widening or Road Sharing or whatever the heck the government wants to try but without the basic discipline, we'd still be bringing the same problems.
