wel f ur talking about popularity u can say nba live wins, but talking about realistic gameplay nba 2k wins, in nba live 2006 i can say that 2005 is much better than 2006 cause 2006 is more on arcade theres no more defense like 2005 its quite difficult to block, and the offensive players can easily dunk in front of you, while nba 2k6 is much better than nba 2k5 they improved the gameplay...but talkin about nba live 06 and nba 2k6 which is much better well only the players can judge cause every person has a different taste...

I think EA both sega's rights so i think EA owns Nba 2k6

Visual Concepts

Formerly an independent development studio working on titles such as early versions of EA's Madden NFL and Sega's Floigan Brothers, the company was picked up by SEGA following its success with the SEGA Sports 2K franchise. Visual Concepts was later restructured within the company to develop sports titles exclusively, and became the major development/producing arm on the ESPN Videogames brand and videogame franchise.

After competing head-to-head with publishing giant Electronic Arts, SEGA withdrew from sports publishing after EA locked up the NFL and ESPN licenses in late 2004/early 2005. SEGA sold Visual Concepts and its Kush Games subsidiary to Take Two for $24 million in January 2005.

I haven't played NBA 2k6 but I played 2k5. I believe that the 2k series is more centered on simulation and live series is more on arcade. Even the live 2005 was ridiculously centered on defense. A person can block a dozen or more per game esp those defensive ones. In live 2006, it is more centered on Style. It made the game more fun to watch 'coz now you can see those nice move the real players do during games. However, this made the game even more arcady than it was on 2005. ^_^
