Default LOW POWER PC file server

im planning to upgrade my network

currently everything except the ip cameras and the "server" and gigabit switch are present

    need:
i need a place to store my media files for the HTPC
i may need to install ip cameras and record their content onto this same pc.
i may need to access my files on the storage server over the internet.

lets not talk bandwidth first, lets talk hardware requirements for this file server.

i have considered a NAS box but the ip cameras cannot record directly to a NAS unless a PC is on. (to my understanding, if im wrong correct me)

the File server will be on 24/7 so low power consumption is a MUST.

considering the j1900 processor but kinda hard to find here in cebu.
offhand the file server will hold:
    2-2TB HDD
    1 os drive

    question:
How powerful should this file server be? will a slow processor do its job?

    came up with another option:
if i use an ip camera with sd card, can i get away with only a NAS instead of a full blown PC? in theory the NAS backups the SD card from the ip cameras.....
i dunno if this is doable.

in my humble opinion, u need a low powered AMD APU Quad PC with RAID 5 HDDs for your requirements

    just modified a bit

that diagram was my original concept before i wanted to get IP cameras.
    1) my current HTPC is a C2Q kalas kurente, although naa may power saving software sa Asrock , IES.
    2) im going to use the C2Q (with GT430) as a low end gaming console for me and my son on 720p. on a gamepad.
    3) my wife, helper, son, has access to the HTPC. not a very good idea when you want to put security cams.
planned setup is to not have a monitor showing what the cameras see, but rather to record what they see so i can review them later. although id like to have that option. but definitely not 24/7 operation.
    4) the HTPC C2Q is the "plan b" if anything happens to the work/gaming rig.

    other concerns,
i have a netwrk printer which i would like to connect to the PC drawing the least amount of power.
it is currently connected to the work PC (i7).
i dont want to turn the i7 on just so my brother can print with his laptop. kalas kurente for the small task.

i cannot put the printer in my bedroom.

Get an AM1 set-up. I think naa na na sa cebu. The Sempron 3850 is more than enough for your need.

    curious lang ko..

1.) di pwd ang server and htpc be 1 computer? (less power kay 2 in 1)
2.) @butitoy unsa meaning sa bold white line (htpc to server/ 2nd line switch to server)
3.) why not put the printer sa server since on ni 24/7?
4.) naa usb port imo wireless ?

dual gigabit lan since ma busy gyud na ang server niya

file server | print server | security camera server

if files security ra ang blema as not to allow anyone to access it, use folder guard

that much work demands quad procie

if u make that as HTPC as connected to a 32" LED as secondary display, u need AMD APU for faster hd decode | recode

+ 1st display is the desktop monitor for viewing

quad AMD Kaveri procie + Mobo

    8GB RAM

    SSD OS

    RAID 5 2TB x 4 WD RED

    Win7 Ulti

    with apps such as

    Camera surveillance and capturing
    torrent
XBMC for video playing at 32" LED

shared folder for : all wifi users
    shared folder for movies

    shared printers for all

Locked folders for WiFi cameras storage
Locked folders for Personal files storage

running as 24/7 operation ALL in ONE HTPC | NAS server

can it be done? OF COURSE!
