Thread: Panic Attacks

    Default Panic Attacks

I have Mitral Valve Prolapse and I get panic attacks a lot since these symptoms are believed to be related to imbalances of the autonomic nervous system. It happens suddenly and I start to feel lightheaded, dizzy, have heart palpitations and numbness on both my hands and sometimes my feet. Does anybody have any breathing techniques or natural therephies for panic attacks? Thanks

There are people with panic attacks who find diaphragmatic breathing helpful. http://www.cchs.net/health/health-in...asp?index=9445

What do you usually do when you have an attack man?

I mean to say what do you usually do about it, when you have an attack?

There's a similar topic already (I posted there), nindut unta to para kabasa ka sa sulti sa uban. Pero wala may resulta sa search.

Anyway, do not anticipate or fear an attack, it will most likely trigger one.

sorry i cant offer you any technique or any remedies but just want to say i used to have panick attacks and these were exactly my symptoms. mine can last for days to as long as a week and it usually happens when im overly worried or anxious about something. it really feels like im about to have a heart attack and at that time i fully believed i have some sort of heart disease and the thought of having a heart disease (at a young age) got me so worried it made my panick attacks even worst. and when i finally visited a doctor to get checked thats when i learned that i dont have a heart disease but just panic attack. after knowing it was not something serious, it just disappeared. i just stopped having panic attacks. that was 3 yrs ago and until today i never had any more episode of panic attack. so i think mine was probably triggered by anxiety. my doctor said if my panic attack continued then she will put me under anti-depressant drug even though im not depressed.

^ I've read that smoking plays a role in the onset of panic attacks.

The things I did to counter mine (I had panic attacks about 4 years ago):

    - Avoided places that I thought would trigger an attack (noisy, crowded) and conversations that are negative (bad news). Ambut ngano, pero katong panahona, sensitive kaayo ko anang mga butanga. Karon I can tolerate noise, or make noise. Hehe.

    - Quit smoking. (although I wasn't really that heavy a smoker to begin with, there was just a time that I smoked heavier than usual)

    - The Patronus Charm. Layo kaayo'g lagpot no? I do this while breathing slowly.

In the Harry Potter fantasy novels by J. K. Rowling, a Patronus is an insubstantial animal form protector created by the advanced Patronus Charm spell, and one way to defend against Dementors and certain other dark creatures. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Patronus_Charm

Hehe. Worked for me. It enabled me to relax.

    - Stopped believing that I had panic attacks

I think what triggered mine was anxiety pud. One of the most scariest things I've ever experienced gyud, but thank God it's gone. There are ways that you can deal with it, hopefully banish it for good.

Ang sitwasyon lang ni rockart unique. I dug up the notes I have 4 years ago. People with MVP's may not have any specific stressors. And normal stresses can result in an exaggerated response. Breathing techniques hopefully will help when you feel a panic attack coming (and err.. maybe a patronus charm hehe). Speaking from experience only. Good luck, rockart.
