I just invested in mutual fund bro and I still have 17 more years to invest. This is how I prepared for the education of my kid.

I suggest you rather invest in mutual funds or UITFs rather than getting an educational plan for your kid mainly because mutual fund companies or UITFs are the ones handling the funds of educational plans most of the time. Depending on the kind of mutual fund (fixed income, balanced or equity), it could give you an average of at least 4% to as high as 50% or even more within a year depending on the market conditions. Investing in mutual funds or UITFs doesn't require knowledge about the stock market or investing in general but having even just the basics will really help. The most important things in investing in mutual funds or UITFs are [1] you must have a long term outlook and [2] you must add up to your investments regularly in order to filter the volatility of the NAVPS (stock price per share). Considering that your goal is for the educational plan for your kid, I guess it perfectly fits such criteria. There are a lot of mutual fund companies to choose from. Here in Cebu, PAMI, FAMI and Sun Life have offices. For UITFs, you can visit and inquire in banks. UITFs are bank products/service.

@maccebu Makie explained it well already bro. Suggest to do some research bro just for you to familiarize about mutual fund. You may check some thread here about mutual fund or see the link below for all the listed mutual funds in the Philippines.

In mutual fund, time is our ally. The longer and earlier you started, the better. And be disciplined enough to invest regularly.

As what Wilson Sy(from Philequity) said, just do cost averaging and you will never go wrong.

UITF or Mutual funds is good if you have the discipline bro or directly invest into the stock market if you have time and knowledge.

You can also invest with Insurance companies that offer investment+insurance for long term but you need commitment and discipline at the same time.

just PM me if you have questions. I can give you a quote.
