A WOMAN was allegedly stabbed to death by her boyfriend in Sitio San Miguel, Barangay Apas, Cebu City at dawn yesterday.
Kate Montecillo, in her 30s and of Talisay City, died from 11 stab wounds in different parts of her body, police said.
She was stabbed five times on her chest, four times on her left arm, once on her left knee and once on the left side of her body.
Her boyfriend, Johnrey Soledad, 23, was arrested by elements of the Mobile Patrol Group led by PO2 Ryan Perez in a follow-up operation.
Soledad, however, was first brought to Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center (VSMMC) after he also sustained injuries.
Injuries
SPO4 Alex Dacua of the Cebu City Police Office's Homicide Section said they could not determine if the injuries were inflicted by Montecillo or by the suspect, himself, because he refused to cooperate with them.
"He wouldn't answer our questions," Dacua told Sun.Star Cebu.
Before the incident, the couple were sleeping in a room on the second floor of the house of Soledad's family.
Rodrigo Soledad, the suspect's father, and other family members who were sleeping below, heard them arguing around 1:20 a.m.
The family heard them shouting and then a thudding noise capped the argument.
Rodrigo rushed upstairs to check on the couple but found his son holding a knife with blood on it.
A medical team from the Armed Forces of the Philippines composed of 1Lt. Alizadhar Tambut and 2Lt. Jessa Yason responded to the area and declared Montecillo dead.
Paraphernalia
In the crime scene, police found drug-sniffing paraphernalia--a piece of tin foil and a small plastic container with traces of white crystalline substance believed to be shabu.
Dacua, in an interview, said that they couldn't determine yet what prompted Soledad to kill his girlfriend.
The older Soledad told them that his son, the suspect, had a history of nervous breakdown.
"Selos o laing isyu ba kaha, basta lagot kaayo ni siya kay kapila man niya gidunggab iyang uyab (It could be jealousy or another issue but the suspect is really angry since he stabbed his girlfriend multiple times)," he said.
Dacua also said that they could not discount the possibility that Soledad may have been under the influence of drugs since they recovered a container with traces of suspected shabu.
Montecillo's remains was brought to the St. Francis Funeral Services.
A complaint for murder will be filed against Soledad on Monday before Cebu City Prosecutor's Office.
