    Default anyone using socket 2011?

im just curious is anyone using socket 2011, particulary the six-core versions?
if so what do you use it for aside from just games.....

Most socket 2011 are for workstation purposes, like rendering and such, others are called extreme cpus aimed for enthusiasts

@MarXX people who have socket 2011 motherboards don't really buy them for games.. hehehe, the price of the board + the CPU does not justify if used only for gaming..

    1) 6 core 12 thread CPUs perform the same as 4 core 4 thread CPUs in gaming, even 2 core 4 threads do just fine (no bottlenecks)
    2) the added PCIE express lanes of socket 2011 isn't really needed for gaming unless you go 4X GPUs
    3) the added Ram channels don't have any significant effect to game performance
    4) power consumption of these 2011 boards + Procies do not justify if used only for gaming

Socket 2011 belong to the "Workstation" classification, it's best used as a workstation PC rather than a gaming one.. though you CAN game (it performs better) but, it just doesn't justify the cost if it's only used for gaming

BTW Workstation PCs are best used for Rendering duties, such as 3D modelling, video rendering, CAD, etc...

yes i know its for workstation purposes. i was just curious if anyone even uses rigs like those and what they use them for aside from gaming.
me for instance wala pako ma kuntento sa 4770 nga 8 logical treads when mag render ko...

basically im asking if 1) naa bay ga gamit ani. and 2) what do you use it for to justify the expense.
im tempted sa 4930k at 28K.
though its almost 200% the cost of a 4770k with 50% more cores.

ok ra na LGA2011 for serious work

    if you can buy it
    why not
    @LordZhen have parts forsale

    mobo+procie

    is that software CUDA optimized?

did you try render it with CUDA?

    or you can wait for X99 + DDR4 + HASWELL E

    8cores | 16threads

@MarXX for rendering, it will justify the cost, but in terms of when to buy, I'll have to up the recomendation ni sir @butitoy to wait for X99 chipset. Hey if your gonna buy, better buy the latest.. and dont buy anything lower than 6 cores going 4 cores just doesn't make sense if gikan kay 4770.. If you really want to get more of your system, better overclock it, workstation systems are great overclockers.

this part i cannot answer for certain.
i know that when i render it is CPU bound. all treads go 100%. similar to what happens in prime 95.
i also know but not for certain that the software i use, Revit 2014, that consumer grade GPU's are "okay".... whether its "okay" or "okay nalang kay mahal ang quadro" im not really sure.

uhhh i didnt get the "k" version of my processor for that exact reason.... i dont intend to overclock didnt want to get in to the liquid cooling thing kay i know mu tukar ako pag ka OC.
then when i ran my software, i wasnt impressed by much (came from core 2 Quad Q8300)

@MarXX I've read the Revit 2014 system requirements, and I've come to the conclusion that the software doesn't need that much GPU strength, therefore, almost all of the load is processed by the CPU. It would be nice if you could post your PC specs so we might proceed to a probable upgrade path to boost your performance.

I've done comparative checks with Overclocked and None Overclocked processors with regards to speed of RAR extraction, this is a purely CPU intensive task, and I've found out that increasing your CPU speed by 32% (3500 mhz OC to 4600 mhz) will yield a processing speed decrease of 32% of the extraction time. So the time reduction may be linear to CPU core speed. I've posted it somewhere on Overclock.net - An Overclocking Community but I can't seem to find it anymore.

*Plus going socket 2011 will give you the additional 12mb cache which will significantly boost your rendering time.

    my setup is
    i7 4770 non-k
    cooler: thermaltake nic f3
    MoBo: Gigabyte h87m d3h
    16GB Kingston hyperx black
GPU: Inno 3d 550ti (for now)
3-HDD's (240GB SSD to come maybe by this year probably samsung evo)
silverstone rl-01 casing (mao na dili ma sulod and hyper 212)
    dual monitor: asus vx239 16:9 and a viewsonic va712 4:3

as far as i know murag dead end nani, dili nani ma upgrade unless i change mobo and procie.

@MarXX IMO mobo + procie rah gyud ang imo ma.upgrade anah.. ayos nah gud kaau kay nka SSD and nka 16gb RAM nka.. ang cooler ayaw kaau problemaha.. then enough nah pud ang imo GPU para sa imo application.. so far so good.. kaso to gain more peformance, upgrade gyud ka MOBO + Procie to LGA 2011..
