    Default Haswell Rig Recommendation

Hello again sa tanan matinabangon istoryan pc enthusiast.. i would like to ask your opinion about this planned build:

    Processor: i7 4770k
    Mobo: Asus Sabertooth Z87 TUF
    GPU: Nvidia GTX 770
    Mem: 16G Corsair Dominator Platinum
    PSU: Silverstone 750w Modular
    HDD: 128 SSD

so far this is what i have on hand already:

    Mobo (Sabertooth Z87)
    GPU (2 x Nvidia GTX 770)
    Mem (4 x 8G Dominator Platinum)
    HDD 60G SSD

    intended use:

    - just a casual gamer..i'm more into raw image processing.. but i would like the thought of knowing my rig can handle all current game titles (just in case my interest in gaming will be reignited)
    - not into OCing, but obviously I would like to try it.
    - my paramount reason for building another one is want a rig that is future proof for at least 3 years.. my current rig di kaayo ko confident na makasabay pa ni in the next 3 years, and i'm not sure if i will still have the extra budget to spend by then..

    here's my questions..

    - is my planned specs balanced? wala bay parts na mo bottleneck?
    - given the components that i have on hand (32G mem and two gtx 770) is it advisable if i utilized them all or just use half of them (16g mem and just 1 770)?
    - currently have a CM V8 GTS cooler, just in case i will try and OC my rig, would it be enough to cool my cpu? or is a close loop water cooling system a must?
    - basin naa components that needed to be replaced, maybe a better option.. unsa kaha?

i'm looking forward to your replies

Id suggest you drop the other 770 then use the proceeds to go raid 5 with 3×60gb ssds. IMO 2x770 is overkill for casual gaming and even futureproofing because theres no futureproffing for videocards. If it lasts you 2 years, well and good. Plus cards dont really lasts that long. 3years of average use and they are bound to die on you sooner or later. My futureproffing plan for cards is for a good 2 years. When the warranty runs out, its time to sell them.

You can definitely put 32gb to good use with large psd files. It think the whole rig will last you well beyond 3 years. After 3 years, youll have lots of less power hungry but more powerful choices to replace your video card with. I bet in 3 years time you can buy a card as powerful as an sli 770 for the price and consumption of one.

    My 2 cents.

@keropi: noted sir, thank you.. just wondering if there will be a great significant change in writing/reading speed if e raid ang SSD? so far with my current setup (i5 IB - 16g mem - 60 ssd) medyo dili kaayo lag na when working on raw images/files at an ave size of 20mb.

@bofox44: i agree bro, but knowing my inclination.. sagadon nalang nako (my last build was way back 2004 pa.. after this, wala pako kahibaw when napud ko mangatol ug assemble)

Significant-quite, great-no. Manipulating images gamay lang you'll feel the difference on saving. I'm not an artist but sometimes I work on some banners for our businesses moabout man ug 200mb ang 1 file nya it really takes some time to save. Plus 60gbs aren't that fast. My approach was, since you already have a 60gb on hand, why not put it to good use na lang. It will definitely be faster than a single 128gb plus naa pa kay parity. Pwede pud siguro raid 10 na lang. There wont be significant difference with raid 5.

RAM is somewhat overkill (but as per keropi, that can be handy for your purpose), GPU is definitely overkill, PSU is also overkill... 60GB SSD - naa bay word nga underkill? hehehe! get 1TB if you have money to burn and give that 60GB so someone else less fortunate... seriously... get at least a 250/256GB SSD and another 4TB of HDD for all you storage needs.

drop the other GTX 770... casual gaming diba? why not get a Samsung 840 Pro 256GB instead of this?

drop the 750W PSU... a seasonic x560 PSU will suffice for that build even with dual GTX 770...

this is just my opinion ha... ultimately you decide... ako man gud, im not into the "one time big time" build attitude kay after 1 year, naa na gyuy bago mo abot nga mas paspas and more importantly, mas efficient and less power hungry...

para nako no need na mag RAID basta SSD nga 256 GB pataas... and besides, kung mag RAID ka, bottleneck ang SATA III... kung mag RAID sad ka og multiple slower SSD's, para nako dili practical and it will only add clutter to your system... og if you take my recommendation nga Samsung 840 Pro, that is face meltingly fast as per Tom's hardware i think...

for photoshop, it would be an editors dream < or maybe it's my dream > to have RAID 0 on Drive C

and another RAID 0 as scratch disk

and i don't believe such word as overkill for serious work, as we love to over do projects with creativity.

    < remember Mac is offering new pro with 12cores | 24threads | 32GB DDR3 | 2 SATA6 on raid | and a ATI FireGL Pro equivalent VC intended for editors >

for your build, bottleneck i see is the SSD capacity in terms of size.

and that's that. not even your budget have the bottleneck.

    and by experience
with photoshop, having been on 64mb RAM | P3 to quad threads with 16GB RAM.. definitely u would love to have biggest ram | many threads possible.

    but it's me.

Heres a test involving 2x120gb on raid 0. Chipset used was an H67. Youd find better results on a Z87 and a 4770k. Plus you get real-time back up all the time with raid5. Its not without disadvantages though so its up to the ts to decide

the raid 5 would a dream for fast file access + security of datas

and with hot swap capability of the HDDs, it just added more advantages to the table.

    KALAMI!
