Default BEWARE: A New Modus Operandi

I became a victim of a modus operandi today, that has been happening for quite some time now. But not many people are aware of it, so I'd like to write my experience in as an eye opener for everybody to be more cautious about their transactions. Online or NOT.

My father-in-law was selling his Rolex watch worth Php 350,000.00. We posted this AD all over the internet (on Facebook, istorya, Sulit and AyosDito). Yesterday, I got a call from a woman who went under the name Jennelyn Meyer. She asked about the watch and was very precise about her questions. Then she went on to say "My sister knows you. You're a DJ right? We've been to Loft before." ; "My husband and I went to Rescue a week ago." then to "Do you know Dr. Chiongbian?" I asked her about a first name but she couldn't come up with one. So we decided on a date and she chose Friday, 14th of March 2014. And that we were going to meet at my place at around 1:30-2:00pm. She called me at around 11:00am for a little follow up regarding the transaction. I confirmed. She casually dropped a "I might bring my son with me if that's ok." So as planned, she arrived around 2:00pm. As she entered the gate, she was covering half her face. I innocently thought it was because of the dust. She also didn't have her son with her. I showed her the watch and then she asked if she could get a discount. I told her that she had to talk to my father-in-law about that. Then I proceeded to text him saying that Jenny wanted to negotiate. While waiting for his response, she engaged me in a conversation. Usually about my work, my friends and family. She seemed to know a lot of things, name-dropped a lot of people and carried the aura that she was part of this certain "lifestyle". So fastforward, she had a talk with my father-in-law, and they both agreed on a certain price. Jenny then told us that she would be buying it now. She said she can transfer the money bank-to-bank and insisted doing it through BPI. So I told her I'd go with her. And she told me that she had to go somewhere else so we had to bring the watch with us. When we went outside the house, she covered her face again and pointed out why we had a surveillance camera (that unfortunately wasn't working at that time). We got a cab outside and got in. I put the watch in a paperbag and had it on my side at all times. She was constantly on the phone. She had two with her. When we reached Fuente Circle, she told the driver to stop by at a pharmacy because she had a major headache. She gave me Php 500 and asked me to hold it for her. The cab stopped at Mercury Drug (Fuente Circle) and I went out first with the paperbag in my arm, before she could fully step out, she grabbed the paper bag and closed the door. I just stood their in shock -- stupidly if I may add. She called me and sent me a text that they had to move and was going to KFC. I ran to the area and didn't find them. I kept calling her but she wouldn't pick up anymore. So I went straight to the nearest police stand and reported.

It's just so frustrating that people would do these things. I also can't imagine what her plan B and C were if I brought someone along with me. Or if I really was that insistent on doing it my way, she would've asked her backers to gang up on me, or she could have personally stabbed me or shot me. And thinking about how that vile waste of space entered the house with my family in it, and who knows what she could have done if I didn't agree to go through with the transaction. So many IFs. But I'm a little glad I'm well enough to write about this incident myself.

I had the right intentions and because of that, I was careless and oblivious. I also wouldn't wish it on anyone to experience what I have gone through. My life was at stake and I just lost one of the most expensive things in the world. When we went to the police station, it was only then that we found out that that wasn't the first case of modus operandi. So here it is now, share it to all your friends and family. Because these pieces of shit are more gutsy than ever. It isn't just scamming on the internet now. They would actually go the extra mile to face you with a smile on their face and bullshit on their mouth. I just can't get over it. This woman was in the house.... That alone was very dangerous.

Please pass this around, and if you ever do come across this watch being sold somewhere else, or know someone who has purchased it, please contact us ASAP.

The woman who goes under the name Jennelyn Meyer has a dark complexion, short and quite heavy. She's around 35 years old and likes to show off her luxury bags that she has for sale.

May I also add that the plan was she was supposed to talk to my in-laws but we called her ahead as my in-laws had to go somewhere important. Maybe that's why she didn't bring her "son" with her coz she knew I'd be alone...

if you already got the sketch from the police or NBI, it might help if you can also post her face here

Maam did you ask her from what site she saw your posting? Perhaps that site has a facility to trace its access if ever she has account from that site. A small chance but probably worth a shot.

Did you request for a facial sketch on her perhaps you can post it as well. This kind of person should have no right to be in our society.

Did you try to ask for list of wanted person in the police station, if its not her first time probably police might have some record on her.

This also serve as a lesson on us. Thanks for sharing maam.

350k for a watch.. grabeha.. kotse namn ni.. dapat duda na jud ka sa pag ingon palang niya nga bank to bank niya bayran.
+ 350k for a watch paliton sa small time? klaro na kaayong scam... if naa man untay mopalit ana kanang mga bigtime kanang de kote/naay service (e.g drugpushers, anak sa dp, anak sa druglord, anak sa politiko, politiko )
pero on the positive note good thing walay nahitabo nimo.. Lets all be vigilant.
basta buy and sell we need to use our instincts and focus most of the time kay daghan kaayo pamaagi ang taw makabitik...

I was able to list a view of wanted persons in the Police station and got nothing. We were not able to request for a facial sketch. But we identified a woman who looks almost like her.

She found my ad on Facebook. Maybe that's why she knows where I work and who my friends are. I don't know how she was able to dig that up though. My profile's set on private.

Yes, it definitely is a lesson. Na shot jud ku xang bulsa.

I froze (unfortunately). I didn't even know what to do. Then she texted me that she was just a few meters ahead coz they had to move. So I ran to that location and saw no one. She was capable of stalling me before I could call the police.
