Default Top PMA Cadet dismissed because he was caught lying

Hi, just saw this trending topic today. I just couldn't believe what i'm seeing...

MANILA, Philippines — Philippine Military Academy Cadet Jeff Aldren Cudia was dismissed from the Philippine Military Academy mainly because of a violation of the "Honor Code" and not just by being late for class, an academy official said Thursday.

"Cadet Cudia's case is not an issue about being late in class," PMA public affairs chief Major Agnes Lynette Flores said in a statement.

Flores admitted, however, that tardiness also bears some gravity among the institution's rules.

"While it started as a violation of the regulations, which is coming to class late, the findings of the preliminary investigation conducted revealed a possibility of Cadet Cuidia violating the Honor Code which led to the opening of formal investigation by the Honor Committee," she said.

The Honor Committee is composed of cadets and cadettes representing their respective classes in the academy and tasked to uphold the Honor Code and the Honor System.

"The essence of the Honor Code is that the cadets do not lie, cheat, steal nor tolerate among them those who do," Flores said, explaining that the precepts have been in place for "generations."

So, i searched the internet what this gravity of this lying all about...

“When Aldrin was asked why he was late, he (said) that their professor dismissed them late, but the honor committee said it was a lie.”

The committee decided Cudia was lying because he should have said "My professor asked me to wait after class."

    ---------------------
IS THIS THE KIND OF LYING THEY COULDN'T TOLERATE!? WTF!!!

as others have said - "maybe this is a blessing in disguise na umalis sya sa PMA kaysa sa madungisan pa ang pangalan nia."

    -----
Update 2/24 - tables turned. The PMA leadership and members of the cadet corps were surprised by the filing of counter charges against nine officers of the Honor Committee by Cudia on Friday.

BTW, He did not resigned, it was approved. Retired Vice Admiral Edgardo Abogado, Lopez’s predecessor, approved the honor committee’s recommendation to discharge Cudia.

Philippine Military Academy cadet First Class Alvin Jeff Cudia is fighting back, as he accused members of the honor committee of changing their votes after initially clearing him on the charge of lying.

Cudia was ordered dismissed from military service by the academy after the honor committee, composed of PMA students, found him guilty of ‘lying,’ but in an honor report he filed on Feb. 3, he said it was the committee which cheated and lied in rendering the guilty verdict against him.

Major Agnes Lynnette Flores, PMA public affairs office chief, confirmed on Friday that Cudia has filed an honor report (case) against the 11 members of the honor committee, all students of the PMA.

Cudia said he learned that the result of the voting had been changed. He said there was one committee member who voted “not guilty” at the beginning and under PMA rules, a single “not guilty” vote is enough to acquit an accused.

The committee, however, returned to chambers and voted again. This time, a unanimous “guilty” verdict was handed down.

Cudia said this was not mentioned in the minutes of the case.

“I am still bound to report any violation of the honor code that came to my attention. I believe that the Honor Committee, who took charge of my case, violated the spirit of the honor code, by intending to deceive and intending to take undue advantage,” Cudia’s statement read.

Cudia argues that the committee members lied by “making a statement to me and in front of the committee during the start of the trial that one vote of not guilty is enough to acquit me when in truth and in fact, though the result as initially announced, prior to chambering was 8 guilty – 1 not guilty, I was still rendered guilty.”

“I appeal, in the name of clarity, fairness and truth that my case be reopened and carefully reviewed for I did not violate the honor code/system, I can answer NO to both questions (Did I intend to deceive? Did I intend to take undue advantage?),” Cudia said.

He also explained that he did not intend to deceive anyone with his explanation. He also believes he did not violate the code.

Cudia was penalized with 11 demerits and 13 hours of “touring” for violating the PMA’s time-honored code. He had also been placed on an indefinite leave without pay and allowances effective Feb. 10, and is forbidden from joining any more PMA activities until he was officially dismissed from the academy.

Cudia’s filing of the report was confirmed by his sister Anavee, who posted at her facebook the circumstances behind his brother’s dismissal from the academy. Her post reportedly went viral, prompting AFP Chief of Staff Gen. Emmanuel Bautista to order a review of the case.

Anavee also accused the PMA of forcing her brother to resign.

“Hindi po siya nag-resign, hindi rin siya nag-apply for indefinite leave. Kayo po nagbigay n’on. Tapos pinipilit niyo siyang mag-resign,” Anaveee said.

also found this - Professor certified Cudia was right in saying:
'Our class was dismissed bit late'

In the certification signed by Professor Costales, it states:

"I agree and consider that because Cadet CUDIA is under my instruction to wait, and the other cadets still have business with me, it is reasonable enough for him to say that "Our class was dismissed a bit late" (dealing with matter of seconds or a minute particularly 45 seconds to 1 minute and 30 seconds)
"And with concern to OR432 class, I can say it ended on time (1500H)."

Unless naapa ta makuha nga other info gikan sa media.

Read this one yesterday and the initial reports were stated of his one tardy.
Now with the lying issue, if they based on how his reason was stated, I think
it's way too irrational to dismiss a cadet because he incorrectly stated the
reason why he was late lols... Morag, iparaphrase dong k wrong imo tubag.

Hahaysss.. I agree with Scott. Naa pa ni underlying issue about the cadet
against those who dismissed him. Trivial ra kaau ang grounds ui.

This is something that we, non-PMAers, will not able to understand. That how come a lie can even lead to dismissal in the academy. If its in their policy or code, then so be it. But but but, formal investigation has to be in placed. Of course, this cadet knows about their code and the consequences if these are not followed no matter how achiever he is.

Is that even a lie? There must be something else. If there is, these council should be dismissed for lying to us.

got a classmate in college who was also dismissed in the Academy due to cheating. Nagka-classmate nami niya after na-dismiss sa PMA. Ilang verdict that time, was suffer the consequences or quit... His companion went through. Graduated with a busted knee cap due to the punishment he received (gipa-lakaw luhod for one night sa parade ground nila). Siya, undang ug balik pagka-sebilyan...

Usahay kiwa pa kaayo tanawon kay ang nilungkuran, mura jud gilansang sa lingkuranan. But he is now a professor sa among college institution.

kung di ka comply even sa time/schedule man lang mo magnify na nga problima i.e. (in the battlefield) and surely cost LIVES.

pag tungtung pa lang daan sa steps sa Academy gi drill na sa alimpatakan ang Honor Code.

for sure mag late late ka, piti ka sa class nimo ug ma ostracized jud ka.

mao na he should have known better.

barogan na lang jud na niya

civilians di jud makasabot unsa ang balaod diha sulod sa walls sa Academy.

If they're truly serious about this Honor Code, then the Philippine Military's top brass should really just resign en masse.
