David Beckham to spend Valentine’s Day in Tacloban City

MANILA, Philippines—Hearts will melt.

After Super Typhoon Yolanda brought Taclobanons to their knees, football superstar David Beckham would give love and joy on Valentine’s Day as the former English captain would visit the area on Friday.

In a report by the MStars News, Beckham would visit the Philippines with the United Nations International Emergency Children’s Fund (Unicef).

“I will be in the Philippines with Unicef to visit different sites,” said Beckham who would miss a Valentine’s Day with his wife Victoria. “I won’t be with her but we will make sure we celebrate it before or after.”

Beckham previously played in an exhibition match in the country on Dec. 3, 2011 with his former club Los Angeles Galaxy of the Major League Soccer against the Philippine Azkals.

TACLOBAN, 13 February 2014 – UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador David Beckham journeyed to Tacloban in the Philippines today to meet children saved from the devastation of Typhoon Haiyan.

Beckham saw UNICEF’s vital emergency work for children, including visiting a child-friendly space at one of Tacloban’s major evacuation points.

“I was humbled to visit Tacloban and see how people are still so full of spirit despite the devastation they have suffered. Close to 6 million children are affected and many have lost loved ones,” said Beckham.

“As a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador, seeing how children are being given a sense of normality amidst the rubble of their communities has been amazing. I want to show people around the world how their generous donations have had an enormous impact on children and their families and how thankful people here are for their kindness.”
