Help Me In My Set-Up: MINIX V7 and WD My Book Live

I have a Minix X7 (a media player) which has an ethernet port and I also have a WD My Book Live (1 Terabyte) also having an ethernet port...so since WD My Book Live has an Ethernet port, can I use an Ethernet cable to connect directly to the Media Player (Minix X7)....before I have that set up with my Xtreamer Sidewinder 3 (a media player) and the WD was recognized immediately...

I want the same set-up that is WD thru its Ethernet port directly connected using ethernet cable to MINIX X7 since Minix also has an Ethernet port....I do not know if I'm doing it right or if I am making any sense....newbie/noob here...

Or should the WD be connected thru a router? so via wifi...but wifi is not as stable as cabled connection, right?

just try it if it works... and if doesnt then just use the USB instead.
