MANILA (3rd UPDATE) – The mayor of Labangan, Zamboanga del Sur and three others were killed in an ambush at the arrivals area of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 3 Friday morning.
Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) General Manager Jose Angel Honrado said Mayor Ukol Talumpa of Labangan, Zamboanga del Sur was shot at the arrival area of NAIA 3 at 11:15 a.m.
Talumpa, his wife, and two others, 25-year-old Kharib Udin Talumpa and 1-year-old Philip Thomas Estuesta, were declared dead on arrival at the hospital.
Honrado said four others were injured but he refused to reveal their identities.
Honrado said Talumpa and his party arrived at the airport at around 10 a.m. He came from Zamboanga del Sur via Cebu Pacific flight 5J 852.
The mayor and his relatives were shot at the loading bay of the terminal. Radio dzMM reporter Ganibe said blood marks and the victim's luggage were seen at the crime scene.
The victim's family refused to comment on the incident.
Honrado said witnesses are now coordinating with investigators.
Chief Inspector Florencio Soriano earlier said airport security officials received a distress call coming from the terminal this morning that a shooting incident occurred. Soriano said all security units in the airport were ordered to respond to the scene.
