First Filipino Astronaut? So what's the big deal?

Recently I have been reading posts on my Facebook wall.

What the eff is this? Another overhyped issue? I'm talking about the "First Filipino Astronaut" that is set to travel to space this 2015.

To be honest, I have no problems with him being the "First Filipino Astronaut" coz the word astronaut doesn't only refer to people who are astronomy or physics experts. Even civilians who traveled to space are called astronauts.

And again, Filipino pride!

I find it hilarious because some stupid people on Facebook said that the guy should be considered a hero and become a source of pride for the Philippines. I was like, WHAAAAT?!

Just because he won in a competition of a famous fragrance brand for men doesn't make him a HERO. And the stupid Filipino pride is out of place here and so is heroism.

It doesn't make any sense. Pakiexplain.

To become an astronaut, I must undergo vigorous training and a strong knowledge in Astronomy, Physics, and any branches of science related to space.

Pero kanang tawagun kag astronaut because it was just handed on a silver platter, wow! Swerte ra! Effortless ang pagka astronaut noh? Unsay buhaton niya sa space? Magselfie selfie?

Gishowcase na sad sa Philippine media ang ilang stupidity.

Especially ang ABS-CBN, responsible sa pagpadaghan sa mga stupid nga mga Pinoy.

Agree ko ani..That guy did not do anything worth it to be called a hero or filipino pride.Sometimes we tend to praise anything that has "First pinoy" as the title even though it doesn't deserve that much attention.
