Guys, I don't know if this is the right place to post this. If wrong, Mods please take it down.
It's about a buyer that I met that had very questionable motives. Let's just call him 'Attorney X' for privacy purposes. The only name he provided was 'Atty. [last name withheld]'.
Here goes what transpired;
Disclaimer: I do not mean to discredit this person, I just wanna find out his intentions, or if anyone else has encountered him here. If you so happen to read this, I wish to listen to your side.
I have a vehicle for sale in the buy and sell section. Two days ago, I received a text from this person regarding his intent to purchase my vehicle ASAP. I then scheduled a meeting in the Banawa area for him to review the it. He stated that he would like all pertinent documents (OR, CR, Deed of Sale) ready because he would like to have them if he finds the vehicle suitable. I said that such documents can not be rushed, but still he insisted. I, of course, had doubts so upon meeting, I left them at home. I then asked for his complete name and address in case I had to draw up a Deed of Sale since he requested so. He refused to provide them.
On the meetup, he barely looked at the vehicle. I have met other buyers before and they usually inspect vehicles inch by inch, ask certain questions and such. He barely showed any interest at all. Would not even take off his sunglasses. He then asked for a test drive. It was very brief, no comments still. He then parked on the side of the road and requested to take the vehicle, with me, to the LTO as he had a 'friend' who could look up the papers for me. I refused, and offered the LTO Text hotline for determining hot cars (LTO VEHICLE plates to 2600). I also showed him colored copies of the CR and OR. I showed him the text from LTO but still he insisted to take it to his friend. Another funny thing is he offered that he would take care of the expenses incurred for the Transfer of Ownership and other documentation If I gave him the papers right away. I HAVE NEVER encountered a buyer who would do such. They usually ask to have the seller take care of it, split it in half or haggle. I still insisted that the text is considered proof as it connects directly to LTO's database without human intervention. He still would like to take it to his 'friend'. I refused so he parked the car and left.
Before we met, he asked my name. To establish a trustful image, I provided it. Before he left, he said that he was working for the Ombudsman and he knew an Uncle of mine who is a prominent lawyer here in Cebu. Eh? What good is that? Name dropping? If you were surely an interested buyer, you would not give up that quick.
Another point is, why didn't he just tell me to go straight to the LTO then? I, of course, did not suggest a compromise because I did not like him at all. I smelled something fishy. When he asked for the price earlier, I misquoted a much higher price compared to my posts, on purpose, to test him. He had no objections. Other buyers would surely say, 'Hey, that's not what I read online'.
Upon reaching home, I Googled his phone number and Lo and Behold. The phone number he texted me with can be seen on another Buy and Sell website but with a different name.
Anyone else encountered similar circumstances?
