How to become a Network Admin? (Need information)

Hi to all,

I would like to know what it takes to become a Network Administrator. I'm a web developer and java programmer and I always find it somewhat kinda fun and like it when I'm tweaking my local network at home or when I'm helping a friend setting up his networks.

So I was wondering on what will it take me to become a network administrator, I went over to other threads but I couldn't get enough and clear information about it.

For now this are the only question that I can think of so far.
1. What are the requirements or prerequisite ?
2. What is the specific name of the course or degree?

I still don't know what other details I will need. So if you have something to share please share it with as much details as you can.

Companies now prefer hardware firewalls(common is Sonicwall) instead of software so I suggest you take Sonicwall courses.

Just because someone suggested something means it also fits you. Explore the world of network communications. Check out certifications that are recognized worldwide. Take Cisco for example, it starts from their CCNA (Cisco Certified Network Associate). For you to climb the ladder of network admin profession in this field may need more than just a CCNA certification.

Another thing. Assess where your interest is. Network administration for large scale deployment are categorized into different areas. There is Routing/Switching, Security, Wireless, Voice and Data Centers to name a few.
