Default Magnolia Healthtea (new product) & flavored iced tea products

Magnolia Healthtea (manufactured by San Miguel).

I spotted this tea at the grocery earlier this week. As a fan of iced tea I had to try it out. So I opened a plastic bottle of their lemon flavored variety right there on the spot and took a sip of it (I was thirsty too). I really like this product. It actually tasted like tea with "added" flavor, not the other way around. That in itself seems rare nowadays, with all these flavored/juice teas available. Most of those seem to overpower the actual tea taste with the added flavor/juice, so you really don't taste the tea itself. I grabbed a bunch more bottles to purchase (yes, including the container that I already opened, which by the way would be completely consumed by the time I reached the check out counter later on... heheh). I also grabbed a few bottles of the apple flavored Magnolia Healthtea. Later on that evening, I tried the apple flavor and was dissapointed to find out that the apple flavor "overpowered" the tea. Don't get me wrong, sometimes I enjoy the stronger apple flavor, I really like the "One" brand (manufactured by Zesto) apple flavored white tea. It's just that after trying the Magnolia lemon flavored, I was expecting a stronger tea taste with a more subtle apple flavoring.. It wasn't the case though and the taste was similar to the "One" product.

I only saw two flavors available at the time, but after "googling" this product, it seems that there are 4 flavors that are manufactured. The others are pineapple and orange flavored. I am interested in trying the orange, but I'm willing to bet that the pineapple flavored variety will surely overpower the tea taste.

Another nice thing about this new Magnolia product is that it also has the added benefit of having fewer calories (74 calories per 500 ml) than most teas (which have about 200 calories per 500 ml). This is done without sacraficing taste.

The cost per 500 ml plastic bottle was just over P14 at this particular grocery. All in all I like this tea as much as I do the lemon flavored "Sola" tea, which costs twice as much as the Magnolia tea. So this is a great value. It's not as cheap or as good as making your own "sun tea", but I can't seem to find the right container for that (need about a four liter resealable glass container... anybody know where to find one here in Cebu? By the way, I still really like the Sola raspberry but I won't be purchasing the Sola lemon anymore since I now found the Magnolia lemon healthtea.

    Side notes
    - The article that I read about this product is here: www.abs-cbnnews.com/storypage.aspx?StoryId=71760 It is mentioned in this article that this product would sell for P5 per bottle but I think this was an introductory price, is a typo, or just plain incorrect (especially when bottled water of the same size costs more than that).
    - Maybe it's just me, but lemon/calamansi seems to be the best compliment (flavor) to tea. Maybe because lemon/calamansi is sour and balances out the the added sweetener (be it sugar or other), allowing the flavor of the tea to come through. I think that most added juice flavored tea products (the apples and the berries) maybe are a little too sweet perhaps and don't allow the flavor of the tea itself to come through. Maybe it's just because I love lemon/calamansi !! I can't have a rum & coke without at least one big twist of lemon/calamansi in it, try it... you'll like it.

Okay, enough rambling. Has anyone else tried this new product? What's your favorite brand/flavor of tea? ThanX

hi there. my husband works in san miguel and is the account specialist (for visayas region) assigned for this product. i appreciate you giving some insights on the product. actually, 5 pesos gyud na cya and you could even buy it cheaper if you buy from direct seller/wholesaler. their main goal is to promote their drinks at a very affordable prices against other drinks na cge ug saka ilahang price.

have you tried the peach flavor? nice kaayo. pero depende rajud sa taste buds nimo na kay i personally dont like their orange..

you can buy the 5 pesos bottle at the sari-sari stores or the 10-15 pesos (not sure) plastic bottle in the grocery.this is helpful to employees, children or parties to help with the budget now that nangmahal na ang mga pamalitonon karon..
