Default XLan - The alternative for banned Xbox360 boxes?

    Source: http://www.tonymce.f2s.com/xlan.htm

    INTRODUCTION

This is a tool set up to play system link games over the internet.
There is also a small website that will handle room management, users online, games playing etc.
It is very important that you use the XLan (it is built in) otherwise people cannot find your game you are hosting.
If this program gets a lot of interest I will upgrade the website to include things like Clans, Friends List, Live Chat etc.
But at the moment it is just the bare essentials.

This program IS NOT a replacement for Xbox Live and we do not condone any form of hacking or illegal activity this is only designed to see if you can get a system link (private game) to work over a VLan.

    Clear out Your Cache

Compatability between Updated Games and out of the box can be an issue you can clear your cashe to resolve this but you will loose save games etc but this is not always the case. even if you delete everything does you gamerpoint mean anything in a system link enviroment

To remove the any patches you need to delete your HDD's cache. HOWEVER this will delete any saved data on extra DLC that you've downloaded (For example, when I deleted my cache it deleted my save game on Shivering Isles; I still am able to play Shivering Isles, but I just lost my save data when I cleared my cache)

    How to clear your cache:

Go to the system blade and then select memory.

Press Y on the HD symbol and then press X,X,Left Bumper, Right Bumper, X,X. Once you do this a messsage will appear saying: Do you want to perform maintenance on your Xbox 360 storage devices? Click Yes to delete the cache.

    HARDWARE REQUIREMENTS

To do this you need some hardware (most people have this)

    1 x router/hub (internet access)

    1 x Xbox 360

1 x Usb Pen Drive (200 mb required)

    1 x Blank CD ROM

    GETTING THE SOFTWARE

Of now you will need to download the Slax Boot CD
    http://merlin.fit.vutbr.cz/mirrors/s...boot-5.1.8.iso

Then burn the iso to your Blank CDROM ( I use image burn http://www.imgburn.com/index.php?act=download)

    Now download the Slax CDROM
    http://merlin.fit.vutbr.cz/mirrors/s...ax-5.1.8.1.iso

    Open this with winrar http://www.rarlab.com/rar/wrar370.exe
Then extract all the data to your USB Pen Drive
    Now download this http://www.tonymce.f2s.com/xlan.rar

Extract all this to your USB pen Drive as well and overwrite all if prompted.

    SETTING UP

Firstly we need an IP address and Default Gateway
You can get this by opening a command prompt (start>run>cmd) and typing ipconfig /all
This will show you your IP address and subnet also your default gateway.

The DNS Server is automatic the program will DHCP an address then we are changing the IP to a static ip so we can port forward.

Once you have this you`ll need to assign an ip that will be used, I use x.x.x.100 where x is your subnet range

Now goto your router and either add x.x.x.100 to your DMZ or portforward 7601 and 7602 both TCP and UDP to this ip (see you router manual on how to do this)

Right the routing is set now we configure the Slax USB
Open your pendrive open network.sh with wordpad
    Edit

    ifconfig eth0 xx.xx.xx netmask 255.255.255.0;
    route add default gateway xx.xx.xx;
and change to your IP address then add your Default gateway
    Nearly done

Now boot from the CD you made earlier with your USB plugged in.

IMPORTANT: if you are using a laptop on the inital start screen (it says boot type slax nopcmcia

If you are having problems make sure this is the only usb item in your pc
You will get to a login screen

    Username:root
    Password:toor

    Once logged in type
    sh start.sh

you will then have the KDE shown

Open FireFox (from the bottom toolbar this can take a min or 2 longer if you are on usb1)
create a new account/login in the XLan and search/create rooms.
Then you can run (from the bottom toolbar) the XboxGW
For more information about this read http://www.xboxgw.com/rel/dist2.1/docs/howto.txt

    XBOX 360 SIDE NOTE

On a side note to protect youselft from connecting to XboxLive on your Xbox 360 configure you Network Settings to manual.
Add an Ip address in your range.
Set your DEFAULT GATEWAY to the IP address you have assigned to Slax.
You xbox will nolonger connect to Xbox Live and since it is using your Slax as the Gateway the XboxGW will work better.

If you are having trouble saving you changes on tour xbox do the following.
    1. Manualy change you IP and gateway.
    2. Select test live (it will ask you to sing out do so)
    3. Cancel the tests, then go back then back and your changes will be saved.

    USING THE KDE

You have 3 buttons on the bottom left

    1. Set IP Address
    2. Load the XLan browser
    3. Start XBoxGW

    FINISHING UP

When you press the poweroff on the bottom left and logout your changes will be saved then the computer will power off.

    XBOXGW

On your first startup of XboxGW press 1 to configure you settings.
Press G then 1 and type in your username.
Press B then Y to save changes

More information about XboxGW can be found here
    xboxgw.txt

    JOIN A GAME

To join a game room first find the room and join it from the XLan.
You will then be shown the IP address of the host.
    Open XboxGW.
    Press 1 then S
Select a server slot eg 2, press 1 and add the hosts nickname Press 3 and add the IP Address
Press enter to return then press B then Y to save changes.
Press 3 to join the room then select the room number.

    Note:
Some games can have issues with high ping rates e.g Gears Of War wont work unless you hace a ping of less than 20 ms
I have not tested all of the games but in time i will,
So just watch your piing rates (this will go off the wall if the host is playing a game)
If the future i will add the recommended ping rates to the XLan once all games have been tested

    HOST A GAME

Go to XLan and press Create Room.
Then select a room name and a game.
You will now have the hosting screen.
Here you can delete the Room – Start the Game and Stop The game
Open XboxGW then press 2 to Host
Start the game on your 360, and host a system link match (XboxGW should find your MAC address)
When you are in the game lobby you should press Stop Game to set the room status to Open (joinable)
When you are playing the game press Start Game to set the room status to Started (none joinable)
To stop hosting in xboxgw type /quit to stop
Also remember to press Delete Room.

    FOOT NOTES

This system is based on Slax a bootable version of linux.
Then the XboxGW was set up to work on Slax and some configuration scripts have been created.
The XLan is a small website that manages the rooms.
If you close the Xlan or you are seeing rooms that are not their - the system will clean up after 30 seconds.
The XLan has be designed to be quick and not very bandwith intensive so you should have no real issues.
    This is continual development.
Use this at your own risk and no support will be provided at all.
I am nothing to do with M$ or any other corporate company this is just a hobby.

I hope you enjoy this and look forward to seeing you all online

Xbox 360 Fast System Link (not kai or xbc)

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Try XLan to get play online/systemlink games.
This supports 4 players at a time.
Room support is hosted by XLan (website based)
This has not been completely tested but the limited testing done has gone ok.
If you are having isses e-mail me on XLan@f2s.com

    XLan Setup Guide

    Game Connection Tip:
On any system link game they have a limiter of about 20ms.
So you either need a super fast connection or use a slimmer version of M$ network.
That is why i setup the XLan, it is based on Linux so it uses your bandwith about 200% better then any M$ OS it also is self booting so it wont damage you current system.

A Tip to never be detected online again:
Manualy change the Default Gateway of the xbox 360.
this will stop any internet activity from the xbox but it will allow you to use streaming media and other tools
it is quite easy to do.
    Goto your network setup.
Assign a manual IP Address and set you Default Gateway to your PC`s IP Address.
Press test setting and test Xbox Live.
it will sign you out, once the tests have started quickly cancel them.
Then go back then back again.
Now look at your Network setting they have saved ok.
Now you will not be at risk of ever going onto Live at all.

I got all this info from maxconsole forums so i take no creadit for any of this but i did try it out and it works very well with gears of war and makes the ping very very low because it runs on linux so you people should give it a try right now it only has 6 members but if we all try it out and like it it will be the new xlink kai/xbc for the xbox 360
