Help me Partition my Hard Drive

Hello iStoryans,

I recently acquired a computer. Now, I was informed by my colleague that doing a "Partition" on the computers hard disk drive is essential.

I don't know what's the essence of it in the first place, thus I sincerely hope that someone can enlighten me here.

(P.S: I recently formatted the PC since I upgraded the OS from 32 to 64 bit. Now, I haven't re-installed any other software, as I'd want to first partition the drive beforehand.)

Question:

1. How to do this? I found a guide online. But, I am unsure what to do first.

Am I suppose to shrink the volume of the drive first to partition the drive as mentioned through the link below:

Or, do I go directly here:

Please help me folks. I'd really appreciate your assistance.
