No, I have xp on an IDe and vista ultimate on a SATA drive. I just select via F12 at post what os I want to boot.

try using virtual desktop but if you want to be like a pro, install microsoft server then your OS from 98, 98se to XP pro...

Just do what I did, easy and painless.
I had added the sata drive, selected it as boot drive, booted via F12 from the vista dvd and installed vista.
Now, if I want to boot XP, I just press F12 and select the HD from which I want to boot.
No bootmanager etc. needed for that.
