Ubuntu is trying to built a new phone through crowd sourcing. You can get hold of this phone by supporting their campaign to get $32 million for them to build a phone. What you can do is to give them USD 800 plus USD30 for shipping ( around PHP 36000+) and you can get this limited edition phone by end May 2014. They are promising to put in the latest and greatest in hardware and if you don't really like the Ubuntu OS you can always use Android. Am sure developers will be all over this device and the support for software upgrade will be almost guaranteed.
Basically, Canonical is taking on the Nexus project of Google to the next level by being all out with specs and experimenting on the convergence of mobile with desktop. And with this, the possibility is endless. What I am thinking right now to run Android as my primary OS and use Ubuntu for Android (run Ubuntu on top of android via vmware). I can run Windows application through Wine Emulator. With 128 GB of storage, I can always have all my files on the go. Connect it with a dock, I will have my desktop interface ready to use.
I am hoping they get the USD32 million target by the 21st of August for them to manufacture this phone. By then, I will be one of the few who will be getting the phone touted as the "F1 of mobile"
