It took 40 days since the campaign period started and 5 days more for the polls, before I finally decided to vote for Mike Rama over Tommy Osmena- as I am one of those caught in a perplexed mood in decision-making on this election. I go for Mike Rama not because he is "Winnable", or because of Surveys, or "Branding". Nor out of the so- called "Bandwagon" as we are already fed up of it the many past Elections.
Yet reading between the lines and dissecting the Issues both past- before the 2010 elections- and the present, I felt in my heart and my conscience which one to choose and vote, as we can vote on only One to Lead us in Cebu City. But before I finally cast my ballot here are the Reasons I go for The One:
1) The 400 Million PDAF of Tommy Osmena allegedly given to the 1st District of the Province (Talisay- Sibonga). As Congress Representative of Cebu City South District, it is unfair and insulting for us Cebu City South District constituents who voted for him as our Representative and given the Province the Lion- Share of his Funds; albeit it is Discretionary.
Is it because the Province's 1st District is the Battleground and the biggest Voting District, and surely aid the Governatorial aspirations of JunJun Davide?
2) The Asian College of Technology (ACT)- Owned and Operated by Congressional Aspirant and BOPK stalwart Bebot Abellanosa which amassed 90%- Millions of the Cebu City Scholarship Funds- to the detriment of the Majority of better Standard Colleges and Universities.
Is it not also that before the 2010 Elections, then Mayor Tommy Osmena was already "irritated" by Issues Regulating Establishments and Buildings without Parking Spaces yet allowed ACT to build the tallest structure in P. Del Rosario and Natalio Bacalso Ave. without one for Clients' parking except Bebot's own cars in the Basement of ACT
3) The Hot Cars (2 Dodge Cars) Issues- whether or either Sold or Donated by Bigfoot to Tommy or the Cebu City Government remains unresolved.
Is it not the worst case of Impropriety as everyone knows he is using it privately and as his own property? If it his own, then why the Cebu City Logo? If it is the City's Property then why is it in his garage and house? Is this what we call Accountability and Transparency?
4) Greed and Lust for Power and Positions- Tommy already placed as Congressmen by us constituents of the South District in 2010- despite the many who's already nauseated and suffocated by his continuous politicizing and grandstanding even on Minute and Childish Issues- just 3 months after having been elected, already started attacking and mudslinging Mayor Rama who barely had not warmed his seat yet in the City Hall. Is this not a clear indication of Greed and Lust for the position he left as Mayor and like a child desiring to take his lollipop back?
5) State of Mind and Health- I Salute and Appreciated Former Congressman Antonio V. Cuenco who despite having been in many different positions and elective posts for 3 decades, at the Onset of the Campaigns he gave way realizing he could not anymore withstand the rigors of politics. No matter how noble your intentions to serve, political positions require commitment and soundness of Body, Mind, and Spirit.
Is it not that Tommy Osmena has a lingering illness, a long time now no matter how he or anyone perceive it? But I do wish him well.
6) Issues against a Cooperative- 3 days ago we read in Local Dailies Tommy Osmena attacking against Court of First Instance (CFI Cooperative) with only Speculations as basis. CFI Coop has been in existence since 1970 and one of the biggest Cooperatives in the Philippines and never engaged itself in politics. Clearly then, Tommy is not a business- healthy politician. CFI Coop employs more than 200 Cebuano Workers. What happens then if this Cooperative closes due to his undue and unfair politicking? Bank-run scaring or just a squid tactic?
7) Health for All Issues- Looking back then when the Cebu City Medical Center was the Target of Ire it was truly neglected. Closing our only Public Hospital in Cebu City is not only "Anti-Poor"; but Callous to the needs of the greater number of our constituents both North and South Districts. Even with Philhealth Insurance, its coverage can hardly pay all Medical Bills. Leaving the poor without a Hospital is leaving them to Private Hospitals they cannot pay. Now CCMC stands for Competent and Compassionate Medical Center.
Is this not what we Cebuanos should inherit: People not only with Abilities and Competence but a Heart that Cares?

A Leader with a Heart to Serve not just a mind who thinks he can still serve.
9) Green Advocacy- Supports Healthcare and true Education for all. Not only Progress or Profit, but also the Environment that supports us all and Sustainability for the future generations.
10) People Free Will Vs Support out of Fear- In a truly Democratic Society the Leader emanates from the People, in the Free exercise of Rights and Responsibilities and not out of Fear of Reprisals neither Retaliations, and listens truly to the voice of his constituents.
Thus, I will surely cast my Vote for Mike Rama. "Salus Populi est Suprema Lex".
