Unsa ang application running on the server? Coz if it's purely used as a fileserver, I suggest going for a NAS. Easier to manage and practical.

    bro Bim,

file server ra man need nila dba? FreeNAS and the likes... kay no need to purchase na or the OS... labi na, naa'y HW na extra na pwede i-setup as NAS box... dili ni mag need ug powerful na CPU... an 8 or 16GB ram would do... then RAID ug routine back-up para secure ang data...

base sa akoang gi-share diri sa akoang FreeNAS atong Pentum D 925 w/ 4GB ram sya, akoang gi sumulate ang 6 persons na nga access sa NAS by running all my 6 PCs... so far, ok ra gyud kaayo sya... wla ra mag kernel panic as what was feedback to me sa FreeNAS discussion board... maybe, the sun was shinning on me... hehehe... kana gani'ng mga stand alone NAS boxes, Atom or ARM ra man gani ang CPU ana nila then naka 1 to 4GB mem ra pud... kumbate man gani na sila... kana pa ba kahang mas powerful pas Atom Dual Core or ARM CPU...

bitaw, business man, better na 16GB na diretso barato lang man bitaw ang 2 x 8GB mem kit ron... for the CPU, IB Celeron G1610 or SB Celeron G530... ok pas alright ni sila... make sure lang to install an Intel NIC para sure gyud na supported sa FreeNAS (FreeBSD) sya....

ang akoa diay FreeNAS server kay gi upgrade nko to SB Celeron G530T w/ 8GB (Temp ram)... planned to use 16GB on this...

storage options that i could think of...
    - 2TB x 2 in RAID 1
    - 1TB x 4 in RAID (unsa gani ng mirror og striped? 0 +1 ba na?)

again depende pud gyud ni sa iyang kaya nga budget...

Ako gigamit for our accounting software server is just a core2duo with 4gb ram and a 500gb hd. Daghan pa kaayo space sa ako HD. 3-4 computers gets data from the server.
