Default cpu best for home based work/jobs

    Guys!

Can I ask what you can suggest for CPU's that are best for home based jobs?
Those that are heavy duty CPU's that can last for a whole day usage.
I am working as a home based ESL Teacher using a laptop and I'm afraid that it might get burnt, considering that I'm using it for most of the day. So, I am planning to buy a desktop set. The only problem is, I'm not techy.

SO, is there anyone who can suggest CPU's that are meant for heavy duty for a home based work?
That can last being used for more than 10 hours a day.

    Thank you!

any desktop would do the job for your need... any Intel Sandy Bridge/ Ivy Bridge based Celeron or Pentium would do... or their AMD counterpart...

no worries... don't get bitten by the sales person ha... they might offer you a PC w/c is an overkill for your need. again, you only need a basic set-up... no need for a discrete GPU for you... you can save cost on this... better, visit the shops then get their package & pricing then post it here... we'll help you in your decision analysis... for you to decide... we can discuss your concern here...

you don't need a SB/IB i3, i5 or i7... you only need a SB/IB Celeron or Pentium CPU... these 2 are fast CPUs... they are not like the old Celerons and old Pentiums of the yesteryears...

Oh... okayy,.. Thank you for that, I was planning on getting an i3 or something. hehehe
but, I will post the offers that they'll be giving me. hehe
Coz, I really do need to buy a desktop since I will be working most of the day and the fact that our house is not centralized, I won't be turning the A/c the whole day. So, I might bust up my laptop.
That's why I really need to buy a desktop.

But, yeah, I will consider those in checking out choices and will post it here. Thank you!

ah i see... you'll be paying more on the i3 but you'll not fully utilize its power. it would be a waste... hehehe... bitaw, we'll recommend the exact rig that would suit your need and application... but, if your budget is not a constraint, why not dba?

we'll wait for your feedback then ... happy hunting...

by the way, to give you a basic idea on the performance of an SB i3-2120, SB Celeron G530, SB Pentium G840 and SB Celeron G530T (my FreeNAS server)... these are my current desktop CPUs here... in office application, multimedia (music & movies), surfing, chatting... I can not distinguish the difference of the i3-2120, Celeron G530 and Pentium G840... they are virtually the same... if naa man gani, pwerte rang gamaya... but, in gaming, I can... the Celeron G530 is slower... but the i3-2120 & Pentium G840 is virtually the same... dili man ka mag games (moderate to heavy graphics) dba? so, a SB/IB Celeron would be fine for you...

intel's lastest micro architecture (ivy Bridge) is faster... I would recommend these lastest CPUs to you...

as you are looking for something that would last a day. i don't recommend Celeron or equevalent CPU's for the fact nga after a few open apps, mu.lag na ang windows especially if you open multiple windows, even new linux distros mu.lag pud sa mga celeron CPU's.

for something that would stand. kanang maypagka best of everything, either go for i5 or i7 with "at least" 4GB of RAM and since ESL man imo work nya mag.involve ug video. Get nlng pud ug dedicated GPU. If you think that these specs are too much, itry nlng usa sa mga kaila nimo na naay mga units running less spec'd sa ako gi.suggest then try testing a high spec'd system to give yourself the first hand experience.

but at the end of the day, the choice is yours and your budget as well will decide.

^ that would be an overkill bro... that's why,. I don't recommend even an i3 for her application. my SB Celeron G530 (Ubuntu 12.04 LTS) and G530T (FreeNAS server) here are both running on a 24/7 basis (both are on 8GB system ram and with 7,200 HDDs) and i did not experience the thing that you're talking about. her application is very light for a Intel SB/IB Celerons... G530 (SB) or G1610 (IB) as a minimum CPU...

just install the minimum 4GB system ram or better, an 8GB for multi-tasking (this might be an overkill for her either)... its iGPU can even run HD movies and video conference at the same time but totally trash in its gaming performance (this is not her intended use). if a discrete GPU is installed, it would be better though. also, for the HDD, a 7,200 RPM spindle speed is required... she must stay away from the WD Greens since these HDDs are not running @ 7,200 RPM...

and you nailed it on your last statement... hehehe

    @ TS,

by the way, you mentioned that you're using a notebook PC. can you share the brand and model? a notebook PC would be fine though. but if its only a Consumer Grade, the 1st thing that would have its "wear and tear" that's physically noticeable would be its keyboard.

for your reference, i used my notebook PC (Lenovo ThinkPad X230... a Business Class notebook) in the office from 9 am to 7 or 8pm... sometimes even up to 10pm... that's from Monday to Friday and its running here at home during week ends @ 24/7... before this, i used an IBM ThinkPad T60 and X60 respectively (both are also Business Class)... they all lasted for more than 6 yrs before I changed to the X230... they are still good and functional though during the upgrade... no problems whatseoever...

Go to any Computer store and ask for this.. Its not much.. I'm basing this build for low heat and low power consumpiton...
Boss lloyd_joy i3 boss for giggles

    Processor: Intel i3-3220 (3.3Ghz, 3MB Cache ) 4,595 (you'll need the built in HD2500 para graphics)
Motherboard: Asus P8B75-M LE DDR3/PCIE 3,195 (you'll need the extra display ports for max compatibility)
RAM: 2GB DDR3 1600Mhz Kingston 950 (Just buy 1 stick para mka upgrade pah, if ever)
HDD: SATA2 500Gig WD 7200rpm 2,050 ( Just get whatever, 500 gb is lowest possible ATM)
as for the PSU and CASE, ikaw nah bahala.. i can't suggest you to buy generic ones kay maguba imung PC anah.. and i won't suggest a branded one kay mahal sa budget..

If strict sa budget just get this instead
    Processor: Intel Pentium G2020 (2.9Ghz, 3MB) 2,150
    Motherboard: Asus P8H61M LX3 Plus 1,995
@TS ayaw ka.shock nganung mahal nah ang bundle...kay I was expecting nga youll be running this 24/7

kamo gyud bros... ayaw intawon na pa gastoha si TS sa butang na dili nya kinahanglanon... again, a SB/IB Celeron or Pentium would do on her planned work load... both are even more than enough on her intended computing tasks...
