Default Saúl "Canelo" Álvarez vs Austin "No Doubt" Trout 04.20.13

Two Young Undefeated Champions battle it out for a Title Unification Match at 154lbs Jr. Middleweight Championship and for the Vacant Ring Magazine Championship.

This Saturday night WBC junior middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (41-0-1, 30 KO’s) and WBA junior middleweight champion Austin Trout (26-0, 14 KO’s) will be facing each other at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas.

In today's boxing landscape, few fighters are as hot as Canelo Alvarez. The undefeated 22 year old is already being talked about as the next major superstar, the future of boxing, and a possible opponent for pound for pound king Floyd Mayweather. He had a breakout year in 2012, first demolishing Shane Mosley and sending him into (temporary) retirement, then knocking out Josesito Lopez in a high profile headlining fight. After the Lopez fight, there were a lot of possibilities for Canelo's next opponent as there's a sense that this fight could be the one to really make him.

If so, he certainly hasn't made it easy for himself. Austin Trout may not have quite the acclaim of Canelo at the moment, but he's one of the toughest fights out there. Trout is coming off of hands down the biggest win of his career, as last December he defeated Miguel Cotto in Madison Square Garden, ending Cotto's undefeated MSG run. The talk may be all about Canelo's future, but if he looks past this weekend, Trout has all the skills needed to spoil those plans.

It should be a fantastic, action-packed fight - just another stop in an incredible few months for boxing.

Opening the broadcast will be a battle between two young undefeated fighters as 23 year old Omar Figueroa faces 25 year old Abner Cotto.

    Stoked for this fight!

Canelo weighed in at 153½, with Trout at 153¼, both slightly below the division limit of 154 pounds.

This is an interesting match up. I'm going with the underdog by SD/MD.

One problem with boxing and its promoters is hyping up being undefeated. People nowadays tend to see a defeat as the end, or you're not as good as you need to be. Undefeated means nothing. The greatest and the best fighters, not only in boxing but life in general, lost. Kudos to these guys for fighting the best possible opponent there is.

I have no qualms about it cause selling them as undefeated makes it more intriguing for casual and hardcore fans if they can continue the stretch and it's very profitable w/c helps the sport and the fighter. A defeat doesn't define a great boxer, it's how they comeback from a loss what makes them great but keeping an unblemished record is also as hard as coming from back from a loss. Undefeated fighters are also great and they don't need a loss to define how great they are.

I'm picking Canelo in this one. He'll wear Trout down with his pressure and combinations which will overwhelm Trout late in the rounds.

Wow! Great Fight and Trout is wearing Canelo down, the other way of what i thought. 1 more round! I have Trout winning though but the judges are scoring it for Canelo. Terrible!

What a robbery! Trout clearly won majority of the rounds yet they still give it to Canelo, 7 rounds to 5 for me scoring it for Trout

It's a set-up bout for Mayweather anyway. But Trout truly won that fight in my eyes and most of the viewers. He should keep his head up cause those scores were horrendous, 118-109 c'mon now!
