Default Intel Atom Sandy Bridge for NAS

Guys, need advice kung pila ang second hand nga intel atom (Sandy bridge?)?. Gamiton unta nako para sa akong NAS setup. Also, unsay nindot nga power supply para NAS? Kanang barato ra unta. Akong budget para sa tanan kay 4k except sa HDD.

^ bro, mura'g wala man siguro "Intel Atom" na Sandy Bridge architecture... ang dali ra makit-an ron na Atom kay based on the "Diamondville", "Pineview" and "Cedarview" micro-architectures...

for your PSU, it all depends on the type of HDDs and the number of HDDs that you are planning to use. mas better ang "Green" or "Semi-Green" HDDs compared to the normal or high performance HDDs for personal or SOHO... pero, if the budget is not a constraint, pwede ra gyud tong mga Enterprise Edition (from all HDD manufacturers) or the WD "Red"... akoa, gamit nko kay 380W (true rated PSU)... gaan ra kaayo nang NAS. uban gani, 4 or 6 HDDs then 250W PSU (true rated) ra ang gamit nila... Atom, Celeron 800 series or Brazos ang system nila...

kay plano man ka'g Atom... you can try to check AMD Brazos and Intel Celeron 800 series... kani, Sandy Bridge ni sya ug micro-architecture...

ask sa mga PC shops dha bro if available ba. for sure, naa gyud na. if wala sila mag stock, dili man gud ni halinon, pwede ra man maka order nila pud... for barato ra man ni sila. for you to benchmark, diri, mao ni ang prices for the bnew units... mobo & CPU combo (onboard CPU)... i'll just name a few... daghan kaayo mapaili-an man gud diri sa main land... bkatong mga previous Atoms & previous Sempron (on-board), naa pud diri... conversion used... 1 RMB = 7 PHP...

    > Asus E45M1-M Pro (mATX AMD Zacate Dual Core E450 APU)... priced @ 599 rmb (roughly 4.2K php)
    > ASRock AD2550B-ITX (Atom Dual D2250)... priced @ 488 rmb (roughly 3,416 php)
    > Biostar NM70I-847 (mini-ITX... SB Celeron 847)... priced @ 499 rmb (roughly 3,493 php)
    > ASRock E35LM1 (mini-ITX... AMD Zacate APU E240 APU)... priced @ 409 rmb (roughly 2,863 php)

if you are looking for "ultra low power"..., kani ang board ^_^
    Intel® Desktop Board DH61AG
then parisi ug sandy bridge nga cpu nga "low-voltage" like Core i3-2100T
for sure..., it beats your "ATOM" combination in power consumption plus a very big headroom for extra juice. although the board I specified only accommodates 2 sata ports, it can be expanded with an PCI-E sata adapter.

    OR

if you are in the second hand side..., pili gihapon any other sandy nga low voltage/power like above then parisi lang ug any Sandy Mobo.

    OR

if processing power is not of your concern..., any ATOM mobo will do ^_^

^ based sa budget ni TS, mura'g steep for a Synology, QNAP, Buffalo & others... ok gyud hinoon ni sila for a NAS box. add lang ta'g HDDs... depende sa atoang cinfiguration of choice...

lingaw pud baya if mag DIY ta'g NAS box using any available old & new HW... dali ra man ang pag set-up sa NAS OS hinoon..

I won't go for appliance NAS... Ganahan ko DIY gud kay maka buot ko unsa nga OS ako gamiton para sa akong NAS and I prefer Debian base like openmediavault. Unsay tunga2 sa i3 ug atom sa intel? Pentium G series? If I'm correct, Ok bana siya pang NAS + torrent? Low ba iyang power consumption compared sa i3 ug atom? Sorry, dili jud ko sweto ug hardware.

^ if you want a low power CPU that's below the the i3"T" (low power i3), you can get the Celeron & Pentium LGA1155 CPUs with "T" prefix (both SB and IB micro-architecrure)... low wattage ni sila or the Celeron G400 series... still SB micro-architecture (LGA115) and low wattage... kani sila akoang gipangmention kay puro ni sila mga "35W"...

ok kaayo ni sila for a NAS + Torrent for 24/7... if kani ang imohang ganahan... if you'll choose the AMD route... kun lisod ang mga on-board APU dha, pwede ka mag Sempron 190 (dual core) or Sempron 145... low wattage pud ni sila...

based sa write-ups, FreeNAS on CIFS/ Samba doesn't need a multi-core CPU... since , samba is single threaded... the faster the CPU (even a single core) the better would be the performance...

but for a simple NAS... just for storage & redundancy plus torrent, a low power CPU is ok to use...
