With
ARMA 3 set to launch in Alpha tomorrow, some new screenshots have been posted on Reddit that give an indication where the game will be headed graphics wise.
Bohemia Interactive has stated previously that machines running
ARMA 2 will be able to run the latest release, yet the recommended hardware specs suggest more powerful machines are required to take full advantage.
ARMA 3 will be using the newest version of Bohemia Interactive’s own Real Virtuality game engine. New features compared to previous
ARMA games include:
- Enhanced mission editor
- Support for DirectX 10 and DirectX 11

- 20 km view distance
- Ragdoll physics
- Physics enabled vehicle handling and environmental objects (PhysX 3)
- Underwater environments, vehicles and diving
- Weapon and uniform customization
- Volumetric clouds
- Render to Texture
- Improved lighting engine
- Support for Java
- Improved flight model from Take On Helicopters
- Support for six degrees of freedom
The Alpha will feature a limited amount of playable and sandbox content, receive regular updates and remain accessible until
ARMA 3’s Beta starts – which is expected in the second quarter of this year. The full release is expected to be released in Q3 2013.
