Truth's truth. I've had a really hard time sorting out through Cebu City North District's Congressional bids. The two dominant entities are BOPK and Team Rama. The former gives you a hard-core politician, trusted by many oldies and loyalists, but unfortunately who stubbornly insists that flyovers and other road-obstructing infrastructure are what our poor brethren and struggling middle class need. On the other hand is a renowned Manila-based personality who snagged a heartthrob of the old Philippine movie industry and then gave birth to good-looking children who are always active in the social scenes.
So who is a better choice among the two?
If BOPK's bet wins this, do you think he'll give flyovers a rest? No! Pretty soon, almost all our roads here in Cebu City will be bombarded with flyovers! I am afraid we will no longer have a better view of the other side of the street because huge slabs of cement happen to block our vision. Passing underneath flyovers isn't cool, man! And do you know flyovers attract modern-day nomads? Yes, look at the flyovers down south... they've become slums!! They look ghastly! Not to mention, they attract random vendors who have no business permits whatsoever from the government. THE FUTURE OF CEBU MAY BE WROUGHT AND PLAGUED WITH FLYOVERS! I am really scared thinking about this. Because what I want to think about are the following: 1. the FUTURE OF OUR HEALTHCARE INDUSTRY, 2. the bad sewage system that continually endangers the health and safety of the people and increases water and air pollution, 3. the abundance of slipper-less and totally abandoned children who are used as means to an end out there on the streets or wherever corner in the district, and 4. the bad condition of our public institutions like the public library and CCMC.
Moving on to Team Rama's bet, the indefatigable woman is amusing to hear because she speaks Tagalog with a heavy Visayan accent and with a splash of Bisaya words here and there. However... even if her ancestors and relatives were and are natives of Cebu, the fact remains... she has not lived in the area for some years prior to the election! Isn't that a clear violation of election rules and the constitution? Moreover... here's the question that puzzled me big-time... WHAT PROMPTED HER TO RUN FOR OFFICE? My goodness! Is it because there's no separation between state and showbiz? Is it because showbiz-to-politics is now the trendy route among showbiz personalities whose stars are gradually losing their luster? Seriously, I don't understand TR's bet and her position with regard to salient issues. She only has her PERSONALITY and the PERSONALITIES SURROUNDING HER to tip the odds in her favor. Whenever there are interviews, her entourage always follows her. Their mere presence creates a hoopla and a lot of fanfare. If I'll vote her, what kind of North Cebu is there waiting for us?
So I did not give up. I did my research well in hopes of finding a better candidate than these two. There are around 6 or so congressional candidates all in all. I really hoped for A BETTER CHOICE!
8 years of being exposed to the fine elements of research was all worth it! Lo and behold... AT LAST... the better alternative I've searched for all this time! I saw his name at the COMELEC listings. I thought it sounded familiar so I did further research online. There I got to find out his vision for Cebu City North District and indeed I'm like... WOW! Really. If anything, intellect and heart should go hand in hand. This candidate has it. Without sugary words, I can see point blank what a no nonsense man he is and how he sincerely wants to serve this City.
What I like about this candidate is that he's got a list of impressive platforms - EXACTLY what our city needs! The platforms are pro-life, pro-sustainable development, and pro-poor.
The idea of selling CCMC, as was the issue in previous administrations, always makes me feel bad whenever I think of it. However, the Universal Healthcare Platform makes me see a Cebu City with properly functioning public hospitals. I also see a Cebu City where everyone can have proper access to medical resources, especially the poor. I can see poor people finally able to fend off diseases which would have cut short their lives and the chance to make their dreams come true. I see well-medicated, healthier Cebuanos because of this platform.
Secondly, sewage in Cebu City is really bad. Obviously. I got caught up in a deformed canal, you know, and scarred myself in the process. I have never seen anyone take sewage problems so seriously as this candidate. I myself am aware of the ramifications of bad sewage. But would you imagine... a
sewage system patterned after the system of progressive country Singapore? Talk about a high-end and more sanitary Cebu! Talk about preserving
our environment! Did our other congressional bids ever think of these sewage problems and their health consequences? Nada!
Those are just some of what I garnered from his site at navarroforcebu.com. If you go to his website, you'll understand full well why I prefer him over the other two candidates.
Well, that's enough ranting for now. I have no idea who you people intend to vote as Congressman for Cebu North District or why for that matter, but... I've made my choice already.
And my choice is THE BETTER CHOICE!
