Why is that AT cars consumes more Gas than M/T cars?

Some of the old ones from 1990s only have 3 gears, VS 5 gear in MT, so MT's efficiency is clear there (never heard of Capitiva, i don't think its avaliable in US..)

New AT cars however,(talking about 2000 and later) is almost as efficient as manual. Due to more advanced computer systems and more gears. The most you will lose from AT is about 1MPG compared to Manual, and that's close to nothing. Now some cars are putting CVTs in to replace AT transmission(Most in hybrids, but Nissan is slowly doing it to all their cars), and those CVT is definitely way more efficient than manual transmission, it drives like an AT without any gear shifts.

Most people buy MT today are mostly concerned about the "feel" of driving, not because of fuel efficiency, they like to be in control of when the car shifts gear etc, instead of taken away by computer. Since i'm the kind of person that does not care about the "feel" of driving, i would choose AT or CVT over MT any day. Manual transmission just gets too annoying in everyday traffic..and i couldn't care less about not having "enough control" of my car, unlike most manual transmission supporters out there.
    Hope this helps.

In theory, yes kalas jud ang AT. It also depends on how good the driver is including his awareness of how his engine was designed to behave. Like, shifting between 1.5-2k rpm in most cars. In reality, there are lots of factors that influence driving style matched to traffic situation to engine performance. Also, samut pa kalas ang AT if one does not know how to drive a stick.

tungod kay A/T cars peeks at a certain RPM before changing gears while M/T cars can freely shift gears even on low RPM..
