Thieves will either keep the camera (if they are a photographer) or sell at a pawnshop, online or in the classified ads.

Filing a police report will help retrieve the stolen goods (I assume not just the body was stolen) if you find them from those in possession whether they themselves stole it or bought stolen merchandise.

What you will need is proof of purchase (like a sales invoice or official receipt) and serial number of the body and other items stolen like say a lens, flash, triggers, etc. These things should be found on the box or proof of purchase.
