    Default hi...need ur inputs

hello to the photographers in this thread...

i would like to ask some questions from u guys unta coz u've got lots of experience na.. im planning to join a national photography contest (for students only) whose theme is structures older than 50 yrs old (like mga landmarks, lighthouses, etc..). black and white ang photo entries but my digital camera shoots in colored ra. but they mentioned that pwede daw convert sa photoshop.. probs is sometimes nindot ang pix tanawun sa colored but pag ma convert na sa ps, flat kau ang color...gray tanan and dili jd contrasted ang black and white (dili daw pwede i-adjust ang contrast, brightness, etc).

ask unta ko tips ninyo how to go about this.. i'd be most grateful if you have any techniques to share or any advice to give i still have 2 months to take my photos.. hehe if you have locations to suggest, pls do sad..

also, im to include the price im willing to sell my photo (if mka pasar) daw coz sa exhibit, ilsa sad i-sell if anyone would like to buy it. the size of the photo should be 8x10.. i really have no idea regarding how to set the price of my photos..hehe i dont want too low na murag cheap ra ako efforts and dili pud ko nahan mahal ra kau, pretentious sad kau na as if kinsa sad ko..hehe

    thanks kau guys..

What kind of camera do you have? If you can, I suggest to buy a cheap or borrow a film camera and buy some BW film (Fuji Neo 1600 or Tri-X).. since you wanted to have a nice, crisp, contrasty.. pro like BW image for the contest.. then go out.. and shoot...

To reiterate Ian, can you post what your cam is?

I understand what you meant about taking pics in colored but it doesn't look that good in B&W. Can you alter the pictures in photoshop? I mean, add a little light and all that? Pwede nah cya? I was told before if you have overexposed or underexposed pics, nice daw nah cya for b&w. I find that to be true but not all the time though...

    tnx guys..

heheh..uwaw ko... i will probably use the sony v1 or the casio 600 something... my dad has nikon slrs but they havent been used in years and im not comfortable taking pix without being able to review it dayun (like i myt finish a roll of film in liloan and have to wait for pa develop pa to check if the pix sucked..eheh)

by the way, i saw my friend's photo sauna gipa develop niya sa kana mura silvery finish na paper in cebu ra toh but mura dili to in kana kodak and fuji na developer.. if i have the photos developed on that kind of paper, considered ghapon black and white?

regarding photoshop, pwede daw convert the colored photos to black and white, BUT dili pwede nimo i-alter ang photos... no manipulations, no adjustment of curves, contrasts, etc...

aditti, very interesting.. you can convert color to BW by PS but you can't manipulate.. converting alone is manipulating.. I suggest leave the film.. take your digital.. take color photos.. and then convert to BW.. then adjust curves.. and contrast.. and everything.. judges won't notice that..

uyyy Ian, but what if they will want to see the original digital files..heehe dili kha ko ma buking ana? in the entry form, i have to put in the details bya : shutter speed, iso, aperture, lighting and type of camera used...

serious lagi kau cla coz i have to make affidavits pa and stuff na ipa notarized... they will take legal action and stuff if plagiarized in part or in full... but given the fact na its a photograph, wouldn't there be similarities jd coz the subject has always been there and there are a finite number of angles and views u can take until mka ingon cla hala.. parehas2x lagi ni cla duha..

Honestly, I am not really into breaking the rules of the contest. But I believe the rules of the contest is a laugh. If they will ask for the original digital files then give them your "Manipulated Photos".. Just be realistic though. You know, slight contrast, USM.. a little of.. Goodluck.

thanks ian..heheh by the way, the manips won't be reflected in the file data ba? cz im not really familiar with photo softwares other than ps and i think naa other software for photo archiving and organizing that will reflect the iso, aperture, etc once u load the file... dili man kha na cla ma changed once i edit and save the photo? ehehe
