In blues, you can use penta-(5) tonic(tone) scale. In pentatonic scale, there are 2 types...major pentatonic and minor pentatonic.
However this is the good news, you can mix both. If you want to dig deeper , then you will use "modes". It is called modes as each mode describes its "sound". Sa blues, you can apply 2nd mode w/c is dorian scale, 5th mode mixolydian and for the minor blues scale , aeolian scale. Again the good news is..you can MIX everything and use all the scales in all of your licks.
How too use: kung naka-kita mo sa first G3 live in San Francisco, the last song that they played was REDHOUSE. Now, this redhouse is a sample of blues in B. The chord progression for all blues is I-IV-V. In the song redhouse, the I-chord is B, the IV-chord is E then last the V-chord is F#. The pentatonic pattern is the same, you only need to know for the "root-note" to be able to know were to start the pattern. Basing sa example, as redhouse is a B chord -blues , so the root is at 7 fret(6th string). Play with the pattern or should I say, jam with it. When the chord changes to E, mao lang gihapon, same pattern. Then F# ,same pattern.
