    Default Business Short Courses

    Hi.

If this is the wrong part of the forum please have it moved.

That said, a friend of mine is interested in taking a short course on business (She just finished a course in Architecture and just got her license, but she is interested in learning how to put up a business). Does anyone here know any schools that offer a short course on business?

You have to be more specific on what business courses or topics does your friend want to learn because there are thousands of business topics and courses out there ranging from the most basic to advanced.

Anyway, putting up a business is the easy part. The DTI website has a detailed information on how to put up a business in the Philippines. That includes a list of the documentary requirements for legally starting a business. Any good entrepreneurship book can give your friend a solid foundation on how to start and run your own business.

If your friend has already made his mind on what product or service is he offering then his next step would be to make a business plan. His business plan should include his short and long term goals, the step that he need to do to achieve these goals, his timeline, his budget and resources needed and a marketing plan. Keep the business plan short (1-3 pages only). Once he has it, register the business and follow the plan - the most important part. Revise the plan as you go.

Growing and sustaining a business is a different ball game. Many start up businesses fail for many different reasons. The top two reasons that businesses fail are: 1. Insufficient capitalization 2. Underestimating the effort involved to run and sustain a business.

Sadly, most (not all) business courses do not address these two and if it did, it is usually done in theoretical terms. Learn about your business as you go and be smart about it. If you have to commit mistakes do it early, correct it quickly, learn from it and move on.

That's it. I may help you more if you are more specific in your post. Good Luck.

Edit: Change all 'his' to 'her' and 'he' to 'she'... Sorry wa ko kabantay na 'she' diay imong friend.
