before, filipino music was something worth listening to. there was the apo, gary valenciano, eraserheads -- heck, even side a and jaya. there were good composers and good performers. now, all you hear from local entertainers are covers. even sharon cuneta who used to have her own songs is doing covers. and the bad thing about it is these performers are even proud to have sold 20,000 copies of their covers.
what i'm driving at is the absence of really good songs that are radio-friendly. given the current situation, mas maayo pa paminawon ang mga kanta ni joey de leon (itaktak mo, itaktak mo) kay naa pay originality.
look at the current crop of singers. you know, those products of talent shows. all they do is scream their lungs out and they call it belting. any belter who could imiitate celine dion is immediately called a diva. that term has been misused. only a few performers deserve that title.
please, return the good composers! why arent the winners of song composition contests given breaks?
