Default iPhone 4 Unlock gone bad (or terrible)

hi guys, i was reading the other threads about unlocking an iphone 4 but i think mine's a different issue.

i got mine from a friend in the US. at&t. it was one of the very first iphone 4s so it was bb 4.1 something... so when i received it, i was told the unlock was not available yet. anyway, i never updated the phone, as i was instructed, dunno why, really, i'm not techie at all (that's why i've come to you guys).

so the phone is now outside the contract with at&t. 2++ years old already. anyhow, the gevey sim it used to have stopped working or something. so i brought it to a technician in makati (park square). he said that he would just unlock the phone instead of asking me to buy a new gevey sim. so i figured, why not, right? so i let him do it.

after like 48 hours of him toying with it, the phone is now unresponsive. huhuhu... my friend in the US already called at&t to have it released or unlocked, as it is waaaay beyond the 24 month holding period. still won't let me complete the thing you do when connecting it to itunes.

of course, i'm gonna "attack" this guy when i go back to manila next week but i want to know what can really be done.

is there anyone here who can solve this problem for me? i'm willing to pay. this phone kind of has sentimental value to me and i'm not quite ready to let it go just yet...

thank you kaayo sa mga reply, people. i thought wa ju'y mu tabang nako. hehehe...

current condition sa phone, ma on siya pero if e connect nako sa itunes, activation failed ang e ingon. what the heck does that mean? i haven't tried it on another computer though, but that looks like a good suggestion. would it matter though, macbook man to nako gi connect, it'd be weird if it would work better on a windows computer?

anyway, i'll try to get the IMEI of the phone. wa man gud nako karon. naa sa manila. out of desperation, ako gipadala didto para ma check sa ako friend, pero busy man pod.

basta, i can remember is that the baseband was 4.1 something... then gi update atong technician to the latest iOS. is that the problem there? dapat ba ni stay nalang ko sa gevey sim niya instead of saying yes to him when he suggested a "factory unlock"?

paita ani'ng ignorante ta oi... hahay.

Activation failed means your phone is still locked to its original carrier, in order to activate you need the carrier sim. You need to factory unlock it to activate the phone with any sim and use it. As far as i know per experience. I can unlock it for you, make sure you know the original carrier.
