TCC taekwondo hauls 7 golds

THE Cebu City taekwondo squad had a successful two-day stint in Manila, bringing home a total of 11 medals— seven gold medals, two silvers and two bronzes —in the Smart National Interschool Championships at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium over the weekend.
Team Cebu City’s Kyorugi (sparring) team, headed by Danny Yap, won two gold medals courtesy of Cebu City Central School’s Windel and Warren Rama.

The Poomsae (forms) squad, mentored by Avenger Alob and Glenn Lava, grabbed five gold medals, two silvers and two bronzes.
University of San Carlos’ (USC) Mikaela Calamba, a silver medalist in the World Hanmadang tournament, won a gold medal in the individual category; so did her brother Miguel.
USC’s Nicole Maurin also captured a gold medal in the grade school individual category.
The siblings Miguel and Mikaela also brought home a gold in the pair category and teamed up with Maurin to win the gold in the team category.
USC’s Aidine Laxa won a silver medal in the grade school girls division, while Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu’s (SHS-AdC) Clemen Tan also grabbed the silver medal in the Boys 13-Under division.
Moses Bullicer of Cebu Institute of Technology (CIT) won a bronze medal in the individual category in his debut in the Seniors division.
Rinna Babanto and the duo of Matthew Bugarin and Maurin got a bronze medal each in the individual and pair categories, respectively.
On the other hand, Mikaela, Maurin, Bugarin and Bullicer are headed to South Korea along with the rest of the National Teakwondo squad to train there for two weeks.
The RP team is slated to compete in the Korean Open in November.
