BACOLOD CITY, Philippines -- An Army intelligence agent was outfoxed by his wife, who capped a five-month surveillance operation on him with a five-hour standoff, complete with a police cordon, media coverage and a cheering crowd, at a motel here where she had cornered him and his paramour on Friday.
The standoff ended with the husband, a corporal in the intelligence unit of the Army?s 303rd Infantry Brigade based on Negros Island, ?surrendering? to his wife, a sergeant who outranks him, outside Room 11 of Adam?s Lodge in Barangay Bata as onlookers clapped.
Police and radio reports said the wife had received tip-offs in April about her husband?s affair, which had reportedly been going on for years.
At first, she told the other woman, an employee of the provincial government, to end the affair.
On Friday, the wife finally caught the two as they checked into the motel for a mid-day tryst.
She immediately called the parents of the other woman and then called to the two to come out.
Tipped off to the incident, local radio stations fielded reporters to Adam?s Lodge, the police arrived to ensure security and, soon, curious residents began to gather.
As the couple emerged from the room, radio stations quoted the sergeant as saying, ?Dakop si intel (The intelligence agent is caught).?
The mistress? parents immediately whisked her off to safety as the sergeant and her husband boarded a police car.
It was not known if the corporal received any corporal punishment from his irate wife, but she is reportedly planning to file a concubinage case against him before the Bacolod police?s Women?s and Children?s Concerns Desk.
Major Marlon Occe?a, head of personnel of the 303rd IB, said the corporal will be investigated and administrative charges could be filed against him.
Under the Revised Rules on Administrative Cases in the Civil Service of the Civil Service Commission, immoral conduct is classified as a grave offense punishable by suspension of six months and one day to one year for the first offense, and dismissal from the service for the second offense if committed while in government service.
This is not the first time a philandering spouse has been caught at Adam?s Lodge.
Several years ago, the wife of a Bacolod village chief in Bacolod City caught him and his barangay secretary after they checked into the motel.
Asked by reporters what they were doing inside, he replied they were just ?sweating it out.?
Before this, a city resident caught his wife with another man at the same motel.
