Named after:

Gabriel M. Reyes, the first Filipino Archbishop of Manila , served from 1949 to 1952. Among his tangible achievements were the establishment of the San Carlos Seminary and the parochial schools. His vision to build a Catholic center was realized by his successor with the building of the Pope Pius XII Catholic Center on U.N. Avenue in Manila .


Before becoming Archbishop of Manila, he is the Archbishop of Cebu.

If there isn't already a thread devoted to Cebu street names, I am glad you brought this up. I came across what I thought was a well-researched online article about Leon Kilat, entitled "Leon Kilat And The Cebu Revolt - Recounting the conspiracy, battles and betrayal of the revolution on the island of Cebu in 1898." The series of articles was authored by Emil G. Justimbaste and recounted Cebu's revolutionary movement during the Spanish era. What was interesting about the article is that it put into perspective the current names of Cebu's major streets. Unfortunately, my latest search of the link that points to http://www.geocities.com/lkilat/ comes up empty. In addition, it also mentioned key players of the revolutionary movement, not only in the major battle around areas like what is now Cebu City, but in other municipalities as well. As as sidebar, I do not recall studying all these facts when I took up Philippine history back in high school (unless the curriculum has been changed--I could be wrong though --I've slept since then). If anybody comes across an updated link to Justimbaste's pages, do let me know. Salamat.
